| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle Digital Assistant | Chatbots and Conversational AI | AI-Powered Application | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022, Loyola University Chicago implemented Oracle Digital Assistant, deploying LUie as its Chatbots and Conversational AI solution to extend 24 7 digital support for students and campus constituents. The implementation of Oracle Digital Assistant was positioned to integrate directly with LOCUS, Loyola’s PeopleSoft Campus Solutions student information system, using the PeopleSoft Chatbot Integration Framework and implementation automation from IntraSee.
The deployment configured Oracle Digital Assistant to host a growing knowledgebase of frequently asked questions, provide multilingual natural language responses, and support both unauthenticated general inquiries and authenticated, personalized queries that extract student data in real time from PeopleSoft Campus Solutions. The LUie configuration included embedding the assistant within the PeopleSoft Fluid user interface, which increased user utterances and accounted for a significant share of assistant activity.
Integrations included explicit use of the PeopleSoft Chatbot Integration Framework and leveraged PeopleSoft administrative system connectivity to Oracle Cloud as part of the integration approach. The rollout began with a 2019 pilot, moved to a broader undergraduate rollout in summer 2020, and expanded authenticated access to more than 11,000 undergraduate students by 2021, while also supporting faculty, staff, parents, and prospective families.
Governance and operational practices centered on continuous monitoring of usage data and iterative expansion of LUie’s knowledgebase. Results reported by the university include initial pilot accuracy rates of 86 percent that improved to 91 percent after an Oracle Digital Assistant upgrade, 91 percent positive pilot feedback, round the clock response times measured in seconds, and reported reductions in cost per transaction from 4.25 to 0.29 and match fail rates from 33 percent to 2 percent.
