| UKG | Legacy | UKG Pro HCM (ex UltiPro HCM) | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2013 | 2014 |
In 2013 Matrix NAC implemented UKG Pro HCM, formerly UltiPro HCM, to consolidate Core HR operations for its construction and real estate workforce. The deployment centralized HR administration and payroll for more than 150 employees, covering both union and non-union staff, and positioned UKG Pro HCM as the primary human capital management platform for HR, Finance, and Executive Management reporting workflows.
The UKG Pro HCM implementation encompassed core modules and functional capabilities including benefits and FMLA administration, orientation and onboarding, training and development, HR policies and procedures management, and employee relations case tracking. The platform was used to manage EEO-1 reporting and to maintain employee lifecycle events, ensuring new hires, promotions, and terminations were recorded and propagated through HR processes.
Operational payroll capabilities configured in UKG Pro HCM included biweekly payroll processing for 150 plus employees, direct deposit execution, garnishment handling, wage change processing, preparation of payroll reports for Human Resources, Executive Management, and Finance, 401k payment submission, monthly and quarterly local state and federal tax preparation, and annual W-2 generation. The system also supported submission of monthly reports and payments to multiple state unions and the administrative tasks required to keep the payroll ledger current.
Governance and operational ownership remained with HR leadership and an HR Manager who administered UKG Pro HCM day to day, assisted with benefits and compliance activities, and conducted employee relations as needed. The HR team operated UKG Pro HCM in parallel with construction ERP software Penta, leveraging advanced knowledge of Penta for operational coordination without presuming a technical integration, and used UKG Pro HCM to standardize payroll, benefits, and onboarding processes across the organization.

In 2012, Matrix NAC implemented Penta Construction as its Construction ERP. The initial deployment emphasized labor cost control and rate governance, with Penta Construction configured to manage annual union rate and fringe benefit tables and to maintain trade binders used for project costing.
Configuration work focused on payroll rate maintenance and estimating support, including formalization of charge out rate calculations and labor burden assignments inside Penta Construction. Functional capabilities implemented include union rate and fringe schedule management, trade binder maintenance tied to estimate inputs, and workflow touchpoints for payroll issue tracking and shop production coordination.
Operational scope includes the Estimating Department, Shop Personnel, Project Managers, Human Resources and Operations, with a recurring annual process to update union rates and fringe entries in the system and in trade binders. Governance centered on cross functional coordination, where Estimating consumes updated rate tables for charge out rates while HR and Operations engage on payroll issues and reconciliations within Penta Construction.
