In 2023, Medpace migrated from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 to Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, deploying the ERP Financial solution to support supply chain and warehouse operations. The implementation targeted supply chain functional workflows, with a focus on warehouse optimization, item selection and rental pricing processes described during the multi-month engagement in Leuven. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations was used to centralize transactional finance and inventory control alongside operational warehouse capabilities.
Configuration work emphasized supply chain and warehouse modules within Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, with custom Excel tooling developed for interactive item selection and rental price calculations to improve user experience. Automation of routine logistics processes was established using Microsoft Power Automate, including return shipment workflows and automated email notifications, and a chatbot was initiated to automate repetitive tasks and free the team for higher value activities. Reporting and operational visibility were delivered through Power BI, creating dynamic reports that consumed ERP and automation outputs for near real-time insight.
The technical scope included data migration from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 into Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, aligning master data, transactional inventories and warehouse records to the new schema. Integration points were implemented between the ERP, Excel-based user interfaces, Power Automate flows and Power BI dashboards to create an end-to-end supply chain automation and reporting fabric. Architecture leveraged Microsoft platform components to orchestrate automation and analytics with the ERP as the system of record.
Governance and process changes centered on managing automation projects and operationalizing new workflows for returns, notifications and item pricing, with the supply chain team in Leuven directly involved in configuration validation and rollout sequencing. The project narrative indicates a seamless data migration and streamlined processes as explicit outcomes, while continued development of the chatbot and reporting shows an ongoing shift toward process automation and operational efficiency within Medpace supply chain and finance functions.
