In 2014, Memphis Light, Gas and Water implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as its ERP Financial backbone for finance, projects, asset management and expense workflows. The Oracle E-Business Suite deployment concentrated on Project Accounting, General Ledger, Enterprise Asset Management, Hyperion, and iExpense modules to support core financial and project accounting functions.
The implementation included techno-functional design and development work to integrate Oracle E-Business Suite with the utility's HCM footprint, and to extend EBS with custom solutions. Teams analyzed, designed, developed, and implemented custom 1094-C and 1095-C processes to support Affordable Care Act reporting, and collaborated on resolving defects in delivered Oracle code. Functional configuration covered Project Accounting setups, GL mappings, EAM configurations, Hyperion interfaces, and iExpense workflow configuration.
Integrations were explicitly built between existing HCM modules and newly implemented EBS modules, including Oracle Time and Labor to Enterprise Asset Management, Oracle Time and Labor to Projects, Payroll to Projects, HR to Hyperion, a custom Oracle Time and Labor overtime callout application, iExpense to Payroll for employee reimbursements, and Payroll to Treasury for inter-account transfers. The project included analysis and redesign of over 250 seeded and custom Time and Labor and Payroll reports to accommodate new module fields, and development of custom processes to automate equipment time reporting, overnight vehicle usage charges, and employee loan processing. Operational coverage spanned finance, payroll, human resources, projects, and asset management functions.
Governance and delivery artifacts were maintained using Oracle Application Implementation Methodology MD050, MD070, and MD120 documentation standards. The program produced functional design, technical design, and installation documentation, and planned and coordinated testing and quality assurance across HCM applications, reports, and interfaces. Test planning included unit, integration, and user acceptance phases with dedicated test scripts and test data to validate end-to-end workflows.
The Oracle E-Business Suite implementation and accompanying custom integrations enabled Memphis Light, Gas and Water to meet Affordable Care Act reporting requirements and to automate several payroll and time reporting processes, while also addressing code issues with vendor-supplied components.

In 2013, Memphis Light, Gas and Water implemented Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as an Asset Performance Management application. The deployment coincided with a broader utility modernization that moved AutoCAD based maps and a T2000 load flow modeling application into an ArcGIS and ArcFM environment paired with ABB Network Manager DMS CADOPS.
The Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite was configured to provide asset modeling and condition based management capabilities aligned with Asset Performance Management practices, and its data model was aligned to the utility geodatabase to ensure consistent asset records. The GIS geodatabase was designed to enforce 1:1 relationships between node and line records and the corresponding points and lines used by load flow models, and a geometric network was constructed for use with ArcFM and ArcFM Feeder Manager to support feeder analyses and automated map generation.
Integration work used the GIS system as the authoritative editing environment, with export scripts that refreshed CADOPS input data so ABB Network Manager DMS could run load flow analyses against current network state. The need to store model input as line and node relational records in Oracle drove the geodatabase schema and scripting approach, ensuring ESRI geodatabase structures mapped to the relational line and node records required by the load flow model.
Operational coverage centered on Downtown Network engineering for load flow modeling, feeder management, mapping, planning, and reporting. Governance and workflow changes consolidated updates into the GIS so construction and system changes are entered once and propagated via export scripts, enabling automated Service maps, Duct maps, Single Circuit maps, and Worldview map outputs and removing the prior requirement to update multiple separate repositories.
