| BILL Operations | Legacy | BILL Financial Operations Platform | AP Automation, AR Automation | ERP | n/a | 2019 | 2019 |
In 2019 Mercari implemented the BILL Financial Operations Platform to automate accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, using AP Automation,AR Automation to address high-volume invoice processing and manual check writing. The deployment targeted the companys finance organization across offices in Palo Alto, Portland and Cambridge and was initiated after an internal champion evaluated payment automation alternatives and secured executive approval.
The implementation leveraged BILL Financial Operations Platform capabilities such as Intelligent Virtual Assistant, automated invoice capture and extraction, electronic bill creation, automated bill pay and approvals, digital document storage and auditor profile access. Configurations emphasized automated coding, date stamping and classification to reduce repetitive data entry and to centralize AP documents in a single digital repository.
Operational integrations included synchronization with QuickBooks Online for accounting ledger posting and the use of Bill.com International Payments to remit vendors in Singapore and Japan. The rollout enabled mobile approval workflows for traveling approvers and extended system access to bookkeepers, approvers and the CFO, creating a single operational payment workflow across finance functions.
Governance and process changes converted paper invoices and manual checks into emailed invoices and electronic approvals, and introduced auditor profiles so accounting staff could access needed records directly. Outcomes reported in the customer case study include one full time headcount avoided and approximately five hours per week saved on data entry, allowing the finance team to scale AP operations without adding headcount.

| Greenhouse | Legacy | Greenhouse ATS | Applicant Tracking System | HCM | n/a | 2022 | 2022 |
In 2022, Mercari implemented Greenhouse ATS as its Applicant Tracking System. The deployment places Greenhouse ATS directly on Mercari's careers pages and website, establishing the system as the primary public-facing candidate intake and application experience.
The Greenhouse ATS implementation focused on core applicant tracking capabilities, configured to support job requisitions, candidate pipeline management, interview scheduling, scorecards, and offer workflow orchestration. Greenhouse ATS was provisioned to standardize recruiting workflows and capture structured candidate profiles and hiring decision data across requisitions.
Operational coverage centers on Mercari's talent acquisition and recruiting teams, along with hiring managers who interact with candidate workflows on the public careers site. The implementation explicitly uses Greenhouse ATS on the Mercari website for application submission and candidate tracking, aligning the Applicant Tracking System with employer brand and on-site recruiting flows.
Governance implemented role based access for recruiters and hiring managers and standardized interview orchestration and scorecard processes to improve hiring consistency. Configuration emphasized operational controls and workflow automation typical for an Applicant Tracking System, supporting centralized recruiting operations within Mercari.

| Sift Science | Legacy | Sift Science Digital Trust Platform | ML and Data Science Platforms | AI Development | n/a | 2016 | 2017 |
In 2016 Mercari deployed the Sift Science Digital Trust Platform to address emerging marketplace fraud across its Japan, United States, and United Kingdom operations, using the Sift Science Digital Trust Platform as an ML and Data Science Platforms solution to support fraud detection and trust operations. The company faced promotional abuse, payment fraud, and spam listings that outpaced rules-based controls, prompting a shift to a real-time machine learning decisioning layer to protect buyer and seller experiences while scaling global growth.
The implementation prioritized live-data learning rather than backfilling historical records, with engineers integrating Sift via API calls and a JavaScript snippet within days and allowing models approximately one month to adapt to Mercari traffic patterns. Functional capabilities activated included real-time risk scoring, analyst queues for human review, automated decisioning to auto-ban high-risk orders, and built-in reporting through the Sift Console and Sift Insights for operational visibility.
Operational coverage spanned fraud operations teams across San Francisco, Portland, and Japan, and impacted business functions including trust and safety, payments and chargeback handling, product management, and customer experience. Analysts used the Queues feature to concentrate manual review on borderline cases while automated scoring handled high-risk decisions, preserving a tighter operational workflow across regions.
Governance and rollout followed a staged trial approach led by product management, with quality data feeds emphasized during the learning phase and iterative review cycles using Sift Insights for leadership reporting. Decisioning rules were shifted from static, rules-based maintenance to ML-driven policy orchestration, enabling analysts to rely on dashboards and case workflows in the Sift Console for day-to-day governance.
Results reported by Mercari included confident auto-banning of high-risk orders within one month of integration and a 60 percent reduction in chargeback and fraud rates within three months, while Sift Insights reduced the time required to compile operational reports for leadership.
