In 2010, Michaels Stores implemented Oracle E-Business Suite to establish a centralized ERP Financial platform for its corporate finance organization across the United States. Michaels Stores, a US retail chain with approximately 40,000 employees and $5 billion in revenue, configured Oracle E-Business Suite to consolidate core financial processing and control activities within a single application stack.
The Oracle E-Business Suite deployment emphasized ERP Financial capabilities, with deployments and configurations aligned to standard financial modules such as General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, and Cash Management. Configuration work focused on retail finance workflows including period close orchestration, intercompany accounting, tax and statutory reporting setups, and financial controls typical of an enterprise ERP Financial implementation.
Operational coverage centered on corporate finance and store accounting functions, with the application serving as the transactional and reporting backbone for Michaels Stores finance teams. The implementation was structured to support typical finance roles and workflows, including accounting, treasury operations, accounts payable processing, and receivables management, consistent with the ERP Financial category.
Governance and operational ownership included Oracle Application DBA responsibilities for the existing 11i environment and planning for an upcoming upgrade to R12. DBA duties documented for the engagement included environment provisioning, patch management, schema maintenance, customization support, performance tuning, and upgrade sequencing to R12, supporting configuration stabilization and controlled rollout of the Oracle E-Business Suite ERP Financial environment.

| Workday | Oracle E-Business Suite HRMS | Workday Absence Management | Absence and Leave Management | HCM | n/a | 2015 | 2016 |
In 2015 Michaels Stores implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a company-wide Workday HCM deployment that replaced Oracle E-Business Suite HRMS. The rollout encompassed HR, Recruiting, Benefits, Compensation, Absence and Time Tracking, and Payroll, and included implementation of Workday Absence Management within the Absence and Leave Management category, covering payroll operations that pay more than 55,000 employees across seven legal entities in the United States and Canada.
As Payroll Lead, Testing Lead, and Data Conversion Lead the implementation included detailed functional configuration across payroll and absence workflows, and configuration of local payroll tax accounts for over 1,000 US localities. The project team configured more than 800 account posting rules for payroll general ledger entries and developed extensive reporting, authoring over 400 custom reports across ADP payroll systems, Oracle HRMS, and Workday. Testing and validation were rigorous, with more than 500 test scenarios developed and 215 personally executed to validate absence, time, and payroll interfaces.
Data conversion and integrations were central to the program, converting payroll data and history from three distinct ADP payroll systems into Workday for more than 90,000 employees in the United States and Canada. Specifications were produced for 18 vendor and internal system integrations to link Workday Absence Management with time tracking, payroll posting, and downstream financial systems. The implementation leveraged the cloud-based Workday HCM platform to centralize absence and leave policy configuration with payroll and benefits processing.
Governance changes included designing new processes and Sarbanes-Oxley controls with internal and external auditors to ensure completeness and accuracy of payroll and absence records. Milestone delivery focused on staged testing, data reconciliation, and go-live readiness across the affected business functions of HR, payroll, benefits, and finance.
