In 2015, MidMichigan Health implemented symplr API ShiftSelect as its Workforce Scheduling application, provisioning a centralized staffing and scheduling system used by approximately 2,000 users across 150 departments and six affiliates. The deployment established symplr API ShiftSelect as the primary scheduling layer for clinical and nonclinical rosters, connecting frontline managers and staff to roster configuration, shift assignments, and schedule visibility.
Configuration and operationalization centered on routine analysis, testing, and configuration of system enhancements and updates to symplr API ShiftSelect, with staff responsible for identifying and resolving complex production inquiries. Functional capabilities implemented included schedule creation and adjustment, forecasting of potential overstaffing and understaffing conditions, audit workflows for compliance and payroll discrepancies, and routine and ad hoc reporting delivered on daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly cadences.
Operational scope spanned management and staff across multiple departments and affiliates, with business functions impacted including workforce planning, staffing operations, payroll reconciliation, and labor relations. Governance activities documented and executed included developing user training collateral such as brochures, templates, FAQs, and standard operating procedures, communicating all upgrades and changes to user populations, and conducting online, classroom, and individual training sessions for managers and staff.
Operational ownership emphasized ongoing production support and stakeholder consultation, including partnering with the Labor Relations Manager on staffing and scheduling grievances and consulting with leaders on workforce planning initiatives. The implementation sustained a continuous cycle of configuration, testing, communication, training, reporting, and audit to maintain schedule integrity and compliance within the symplr API ShiftSelect environment.
