In 2010, Mitsubishi Australia implemented SAP Vehicle Management System VMS as an Automotive ERP solution to manage vehicle order placement, manufacturing handoffs, delivery to consumers and post-delivery lifecycle tracking. The SAP Vehicle Management System VMS served as a purpose-built industry solution for high value products, instrumenting order-to-delivery workflows and feeding traditional SAP modules.
The implementation configured VMS as a front-end to SAP SD, LE and MM modules, enabling vehicle model definition using variant configuration and vehicle pricing using variant pricing for wholesale and incentives. Functional capabilities included vehicle model management, variant-based pricing, inbound processing, and vehicle sales and logistics tracking executed through VMS Actions with a configuration action control matrix and role-based controls.
Integrations implemented as part of the scope included Business Partner control and CRM integration, and orchestration of outbound logistics through a third party service provider covering shipment, Goods Issue and outbound delivery confirmation. The solution tracked vehicles through wholesale and retail sales and logistics flows, and linked order and logistics status to manufacturing and delivery milestones to provide a continuous product lifecycle record.
Delivery and governance were led by IBM Australia with a four member local delivery team, and a named Team Lead, Anbu, responsible for design and delivery of vehicle order and sales process from April 2010 to May 2012. The order-to-cash and OTC delivery model included offshore development resources, with critical functional specifications written locally and developed off-shore, and the implementation explicitly covered sales, logistics and pricing business functions within Mitsubishi Australia.
