In 2006 Mitsui Japan deployed Advantys WorkflowGen, selecting the Business Process Management application to automate accounting and internal control processes across its global trading subsidiaries. The initial rollout standardized about 40 business processes and positioned Advantys WorkflowGen as the central process orchestration platform for finance and internal control functions.
Implementation centered on workflow orchestration, form based approvals, automated routing, and business rule enforcement to codify approval pathways and segregation of duties. Configurations included reusable process templates and monitoring dashboards, leveraging Advantys WorkflowGen capabilities for process modeling, execution, and operational visibility common to Business Process Management solutions.
Integrations were built to connect Advantys WorkflowGen directly with SAP, enabling immediate exchange of transactional and control related data between workflow instances and SAP across Mitsui trading entities. The operational coverage extended to approximately 70 sites within Mitsui Japan's global trading subsidiaries, focusing on finance and internal control teams and their end to end process flows.
Governance emphasized standardized process definitions and phased rollout to subsidiary sites, strengthening internal control through consistent workflow enforcement and auditability. Mitsui Japan has continued to use Advantys WorkflowGen since 2006, maintaining the Business Process Management environment as the backbone for its accounting and internal control process automation.

In 2020 Mitsui Japan established a joint company, 三井物産デジタル・アセットマネジメント, to build next generation asset management services using blockchain technology. LayerX provided the LayerX Blockchain Platform and system development for the joint venture, supplying the distributed ledger infrastructure for digital securities and tokenized assets.
The implementation centered on LayerX Blockchain Platform capabilities for token issuance and lifecycle management, smart contract orchestration for asset native instruments, and secure custody interfaces to support asset manager operations. Configuration and system development work included asset token modeling, on chain governance rules, and APIs to connect portfolio and fund accounting workflows typical of asset management. These functional modules enabled issuance, transfer, settlement and immutable record keeping workflows for tokenized assets.
Operational scope was the newly formed digital asset management vehicle in Japan, focusing on finance and asset management functions within the joint venture, with LayerX responsible for platform delivery and system development. Governance was organized through the joint company structure to centralize product development and to pursue tokenized asset offerings under a managed corporate framework. The explicit outcome was the creation of a digital asset management vehicle positioned to offer tokenized asset services driven by the LayerX Blockchain Platform implementation.
