In 2019, Montefiore Medical Center implemented Sterling Background Check to build out BackGround Screening capabilities supporting Talent Acquisition and Recruitment and Staffing onboarding workflows. The deployment was organized as a centralized screening capability embedded within Recruitment and Staffing, with a primary operational focus on the Faculty Practice Group that spans roughly 5000 staff across more than 20 departments in the Bronx.
Sterling Background Check was configured to verify education and certifications, and to orchestrate standard pre-employment screening activities consistent with BackGround Screening solutions. The implementation was integrated into the HRIS onboarding lifecycle to ensure accurate new hire setup, and it operated alongside Quest drug screening processes and Occupational Health onboarding physical appointments, while compliance workflows included United States Citizenship and Immigration Services I9 verification steps.
Operational coverage centered on Talent Acquisition Coordinators who managed onboarding and transfers, enabling the team to process 30 plus new hires and internal transfers within a two week cycle turnaround. Governance emphasized recruitment and onboarding process controls, role-based ownership within Recruitment and Staffing, and coordination points with Occupational Health for appointment scheduling and with screening vendors for verification tasks.
The Sterling Background Check implementation also supported analytics used for orientations and training sessions and contributed to a positive candidate experience as reflected in ongoing recognition through the organization’s customer survey portal. The deployment positioned Sterling Background Check as the primary BackGround Screening application used by Recruitment and Staffing and related HR functions at Montefiore Medical Center.

In 2020, Montefiore Medical Center implemented EPIC EHR as its Electronic Health Record across the Core Montefiore Network and affiliated member hospitals. The deployment targeted centralized EMR user provisioning, security governance, and provider onboarding during a period of continuous go lives and Epic roll outs.
Operationally the rollout established a six person security analyst team structure with a dedicated Senior Epic Security Coordinator leading Users and Security governance and build approvals. Responsibilities included review and approval of Epic build changes, Data Courier functions for timely migration of builds through all Epic environments, and stewardship of a SQL driven automated user build and EPIC EHR maintenance system.
Functional modules and capabilities emphasized by the implementation included user and security management, build lifecycle orchestration, testing orchestration, and provider build services for incoming hospitals and community provider groups. The implementation supported five successful large scale go lives to onboard new member hospitals, and the security analyst team provided full support services for acquired sites and external providers seeking to join the Montefiore Network.
Governance centered on a Users and Security workgroup that reviewed and approved EMR build changes, paired with formal testing teams and training led by the security coordinator to validate features before production release. The Senior Epic Security Coordinator documented over 33 unique projects, trained junior analysts, led cross team training, maintained Data Courier responsibilities across Epic environments, and operated in a remote first model while playing a key role in multiple large scale go lives.

In 2015 Montefiore Medical Center deployed Microsoft Power BI as a central component of its Analytics and BI effort, aligning BI delivery with manager-level business requirements and monthly analytical presentations. The deployment emphasized Microsoft Power BI for interactive visualization and dashboards while retaining SQL Server Reporting Services for scheduled operational reports and KPI distribution to workforce management teams.
Implementation work focused on ETL orchestration and query performance, using SQL ad-hoc queries, stored procedures, and SQL Server Integration Services to automate data extracting, transforming and loading. Visual outputs were delivered through Microsoft Power BI dashboards and SSRS reports, with SSRS used for scheduled operational reporting and Power BI used for interactive analytics and KPI visualization.
The program included explicit data governance actions, audit of source data, and assurance of data quality, working closely with IT specialists to document requirements and operationalize processes. The architecture centered on a SQL Server data store fed by SSIS jobs, with SSRS and Microsoft Power BI consuming the same curated data sets for reporting and analytics, supporting managers and operational teams across workforce management and call center functions.
Operational rollout combined documentation, monthly report presentations and training, including instructor-led sessions to teach teams how to write SQL queries and build Excel pivot tables. The team also led an applied time series forecast project for call volumes, tuning model parameters for production use and improving forecast accuracy by 50 percent.
