In 2013, New Era Life Insurance implemented DataEase as its Database Management application. The deployment supported the Senior Division, specifically Medicare Supplement Underwriting and later Medicare Supplement Claims, and was operated on site to handle intake and servicing workflows.
DataEase was used to capture new Medicare Supplement applications, assign policy numbers, and generate and mail policyholder paperwork and ID cards. Functional capabilities in the environment included handling duplicate policy requests, processing effective date change requests, issuing refund vouchers for declined or canceled applications, and processing electronic, paper, and VA claims. The system also supported flagging claims for rescindment due to suspected misrepresentation and tracking requests for medical information from doctors and hospitals for policies under review.
The implementation centralized core policy administration and claims workflows within a single Database Management platform. DataEase supported front office intake tasks and enabled staff cross trained at the main reception desk to perform application entry and basic policy servicing within the same system, reducing handoffs between reception, underwriting, and claims.
Governance emphasized standardized intake and mailing procedures, defined steps for policy number assignment, and a structured rescindment review workflow owned by underwriting and claims teams. Operational controls documented electronic claims review, medical information request handling, and the dispatch process for refunds and duplicate materials to ensure consistent processing across the Senior Division.
