In 2004, Norkem implemented SAP Business One SCM as its primary Supply Chain Management platform, instituting a centralized transactional system for its UK distribution operations. Sapphire Systems served as the system integrator for the deployment, aligning the implementation to the needs of a 120 employee distributor with reported revenue of 352000000.
The SAP Business One SCM deployment was configured to support core supply chain capabilities including inventory management, sales order processing, purchasing, and warehouse management, and was extended to support daily accounts tasks explicitly noted by internal staff. Configuration emphasized transaction posting for sales and purchase invoices, statement reconciliation, and processing of internal bank statements, with exportable reporting workflows to standard spreadsheet tools for reconciliation.
Operational coverage included finance, accounts, purchasing, warehouse and sales teams within Norkem United Kingdom operations, where office administrators and the small accounts team used SAP Business One SCM for invoice processing, account reconciliation and customer account follow up. The implementation connected transactional supply chain workflows with accounting workflows to centralize order to cash and procure to pay processes while supporting desktop reporting and administrative tasks.
Sapphire Systems executed the rollout with role based configuration and targeted training for the accounts team, formalizing procedures for invoice handling, bank statement processing and chasing outstanding accounts. Governance focused on centralized transaction controls, documented process steps for accounts and procurement, and operational handoffs between reception, accounts and warehouse functions to sustain ongoing supply chain and finance operations.
