In 2012, NorthShore implemented Oracle PeopleSoft HCM as its Core HR system. Oracle PeopleSoft HCM provided centralized Core HR capabilities to support talent acquisition, onboarding, benefits administration, workforce records, and HR case handling for NorthShore’s 17,000 employees.
The implementation included candidate assessment and hiring workflows integrated with ProveIt, onboarding task management covering both online and paper processes, background check processing, job requisition posting and maintenance, and expense report processing. Training enrollment and monitoring were integrated with DevelopU to manage staff learning modules and track completion across assigned courses.
Operational coverage emphasized Skokie site HR administration while also supporting company wide initiative activities and project management tasks assigned to HR staff. Day to day administrative functions such as front desk inquiry handling, calendar coordination for the Skokie Human Resources Director, correspondence with management about onboarding, and coordination of employee events were managed in conjunction with PeopleSoft HCM driven workflows.
Governance focused on standardizing onboarding checklists and centralizing job posting and training enrollment as single sources of truth, with HR governance processes involving the Employee Healthcare Benefits Appeals Committee for benefits related cases. The deployment oriented operational teams in Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Benefits Administration, and HR operations toward coordinated, system driven workflows.

The deployment established EPIC EHR as the central clinical platform providing infrastructure, clinical documentation capability, and practice support intended to allow physicians to concentrate on patient care.
The implementation covered core Electronic Health Record functional areas typical for the category, including clinical documentation, computerized provider order entry, medication management and reconciliation, scheduling and results management. Configuration work focused on physician workflows in outpatient clinics and hospital services, with standardized documentation templates and order sets to support consistent clinical processes and reduce administrative burden.
EPIC EHR was embedded into NorthShore operations systemwide, servicing physicians and clinical staff across the health system and aligning administrative functions such as appointments and care coordination under a centralized platform. Governance was organized to centralize support, tool provisioning, and clinical workflow alignment, with training and ongoing operational support layered into the rollout to drive adoption across departments.
NorthShore described EPIC EHR as a top notch Electronic Health Record that delivers tools and support not available from off the shelf solutions for independent practices, and as a contributor to improved physician personal economics and long term stability. The system is positioned to remove practice management hassles so clinicians can focus on delivering patient care.
