| SAP | Legacy | SAP Business Suite | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2010 | 2010 |
In 2010, Nederlandse Spoorwegen implemented SAP Business Suite as its ERP Financial platform. The SAP Business Suite deployment served as the primary financial backbone and was operated within a complex SAP landscape where SAP CRM, SAP BI, SAP ECC and SAP PI played major roles in B2B and customer facing processes.
The implementation encompassed standard ERP Financial capabilities including general ledger control, accounts payable and receivable workflows, fixed asset handling and period close orchestration, aligned with transportation sector bookkeeping and external reporting requirements. Ongoing maintenance and development work focused on resolving complex changes, problems and incidents in the integrated landscape, with a senior CRM consultant responsible for fitting business processes into the environment and supporting demo and training activities.
Integrations were explicit and central to the implementation, SAP CRM, SAP BI, SAP ECC and SAP PI formed the core interfaces supporting B2B order to cash and customer service processes, and the program connected to the public transport smartcard initiative. The SAP CRM upgrade project CU2012 upgraded SAP CRM 5.0 to SAP CRM 7.0 Ehp1 starting in the third quarter of 2011, with responsibilities that included requirements gathering, planning, WebUI configuration, demo and training session delivery, and the project went live in May 2012.
Operational coverage prioritized NS Customer Service and management teams, with the CLASS rollout extending SAP CRM usage from approximately 80 to more than 1500 users and the consultant acting as a linking pin between management and the OVCP BUSINESS program. Governance evolved to include formal chain management for business processes, a Functional SAP team role that owned process fit and incident resolution, and tasking for circuit manager responsibilities to coordinate multiple stakeholders across the landscape.
The narrative reflects a tightly integrated SAP Business Suite implementation in the transportation environment, where SAP Business Suite and the associated CRM and PI integrations supported both B2B and customer service workflows. Project CU2012 went live in May 2012 and the CLASS rollout explicitly increased user adoption from 80 to more than 1500 users, demonstrating the scale of operational rollout across NS.

| SAP | SAP HCM (HR) | SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2023 | 2024 |
In 2023, Nederlandse Spoorwegen implemented SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central as its Core HR system. The implementation migrated HR data from SAP HCM and delivered an Employee Central MVP led by the HR Core Team within ITGA, the group level IT department responsible for HR systems and services.
Configuration work covered Core HR functional modules including Employee Central for basic administration, SAP SuccessFactors LMS for Learning, Performance and Assessment, and Onboarding, with roadmap items for Compensation, Succession, and Contingent Workers. SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central was instrumented with People Analytics capabilities to produce dashboards and classic reports for distinct target groups such as Colleagues, Managers, HR Support, and Functional Management.
Integrations were planned and executed using ITGA integration patterns, leveraging the enterprise ESB and APIs and existing RPA services to combine data across SuccessFactors modules and downstream systems, while payroll migration to the cloud remained a later phase. Reporting design emphasized standardized approaches to combine module data, naming conventions, story counting, and reuse of report templates to accelerate information product delivery.
Governance was centralized with the HR Core Team coordinating requirements from HR Management, and a standardized working method was developed including design documentation, dashboard and reporting templates, authorization controls for reports and data value ranges, and established naming conventions. A fixed term People Analytics developer assignment from January 24, 2022 to July 1, 2022 supported delivery of initial dashboards, reporting templates, and the structured design approach that fed into the 2023 SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central rollout.

| IBM | Legacy | IBM Maximo | Enterprise Asset Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2013 | 2013 |
In 2013, Nederlandse Spoorwegen implemented IBM Maximo as its Enterprise Asset Management system. IBM Maximo was provisioned to manage and control maintenance and services on train equipment used by NS maintenance teams.
Configuration and functional scope emphasized core Enterprise Asset Management capabilities, including an enterprise asset register, work order management, preventive maintenance scheduling, spare parts and inventory control, and service planning workflows. The implementation focused on asset lifecycle management and standardized maintenance processes for rolling stock inspections, fault handling, and scheduled interventions.
Operational ownership for IBM Maximo is held within NS M&O, and a Technical Application Manager for Maximo has been in place since January 2018 in Utrecht to provide application administration, configuration governance, and operational support. That role maintains configuration baselines, coordinates upgrades, and enforces maintenance process controls across the teams responsible for train equipment.
Governance integrated application-level controls with maintenance workflows to align work order lifecycle, maintenance planning, and parts reconciliation, positioning IBM Maximo as the authoritative Enterprise Asset Management platform for Nederlandse Spoorwegen 27s maintenance execution and asset records.
