In 2018 NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment implemented SAP SuccessFactors Learning as part of a broader Human Capital Management program supporting the Planning and Environment Cluster, covering approximately 8,500 employees. The program was led by a team delivering a range of HCM solutions utilising SuccessFactors alongside existing systems to support and improve service delivery, with concurrent rollout of the SuccessFactors Performance module and a plan to implement the full SuccessFactors suite in early 2019.
The deployment centered on SAP SuccessFactors Learning as the Learning and Development application, configured to deliver core learning management functions such as course creation and assignment, enrollment workflows, competency and compliance tracking, and learning records management. Configuration work emphasized integration of learning workflows with performance processes through the SuccessFactors Performance module to align development plans, learning assignments, and performance reviews within HR and People and Culture operations.
Integrations were implemented between SAP SuccessFactors Learning and the organisations existing HR master data and identity sources to maintain a single source of truth for employee records and to automate user provisioning and role based access. The implementation targeted cluster wide operational coverage across planning and environment business units, with the Learning and Development application interfacing with payroll adjacent systems only where HR data synchronization was required.
Governance for the program included centralized program management, strategic advisory on HCM roadmap, budget oversight and contract and vendor management responsibilities. Rollout was managed as a phased program of work, sequencing Learning and Performance modules first, and scheduling full suite adoption in early 2019 to extend HR process automation and standardize learning governance across the cluster.
