In 2019, One Family implemented Microsoft Power BI to centralize marketing and customer analytics reporting within its Insights team based in Brighton. The deployment established foundational Analytics and BI capability to support marketing, retention, and cross-sell decisioning across the organization.
Microsoft Power BI was used to create operational dashboards, automated monthly reports, and campaign performance visualizations. Functional workflows included KPI measurement, cohort and segmentation dashboards, channel and campaign attribution visualization, and a consolidated customer bible assembled from SQL extracts to drive cross-sell segmentation. Power BI dashboards were complemented by existing Excel automation and Google Data Studio reports to deliver actionable insights to marketing and analytics consumers.
The implementation integrated SQL-based customer datasets and RStudio model outputs, feeding prediction models into Microsoft Power BI visualizations. Tracking and behavioral sources from Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager were incorporated, alongside Hotjar session data, and a custom Markov chain attribution model supplied channel weighting for conversion path analysis. Market basket analysis and machine learning lookalike lists for cross-sell were operationalized through data pipelines into Power BI to support campaign targeting.
Governance and process changes accompanied the rollout, including a GA and GTM governance restructure that reduced tag counts and introduced data attributes for GDPR alignment, and a CTF maturity program for segmentation of continuation and reinvestment accounts. Statistical testing workflows using chi-squared, Fisher exact, Wilcoxon and ANOVA supported campaign evaluation, while a churn classification model built in RStudio using XGBoost ensemble trees predicted 63% of the total value while targeting 16% of the total users from a 100,000 user sample. Cost-efficiency analyses for gone away customers and ongoing dashboard-led reporting sustained operational coverage across Insights, digital marketing and retention functions.
