In 2015 Organic Valley deployed Microsoft Skype for Business Server as a core Collaboration platform to centralize real time communications across the cooperative. The deployment occurred while a Unified Communications Manager led a team responsible for support and build out of SharePoint, Lync, Exchange and supporting systems from January 2015 through May 2017, aligning UC operations with broader collaboration tooling.
The Microsoft Skype for Business Server implementation emphasized presence, instant messaging, enterprise voice and conferencing capabilities, and integration points with Exchange for calendaring and mail routing and with SharePoint for presence and content collaboration. Standard on premises server topology elements such as front end pools, mediation servers and telephony gateway configuration were applied to support voice and conferencing workloads consistent with an enterprise Collaboration deployment.
Integrations explicitly included Exchange, SharePoint and existing Lync components to enable calendaring integration, presence visibility in collaboration sites and continuity for Lync endpoints. Operational coverage was organized across the IT and communications teams and extended to distributed staff working around the globe, with the Unified Communications Manager overseeing day to day operations and platform evolution.
Governance and operational workflow were centralized under the UC management team, consolidating support responsibilities for SharePoint, Lync, Exchange and Microsoft Skype for Business Server and standardizing incident, change and administration procedures. The support organization focused on cross system administration and operational automation to keep communications applications and transport systems running and to maintain interactive collaboration for remote and distributed users.
