SAP SAP ERP ECC 6.0 SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial ERP n/a 2020 2021
In 2020, Otto Group implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP Financial solution, replacing SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and consolidating SAP application management under Otto Group IT. The project framed SAP S/4 HANA as the strategic finance and core ERP platform, anchoring financial accounting and controlling workflows on SAP HANA in memory database technology supplied by SAP. The implementation addressed a fundamental hardware constraint, SAP S/4 HANA requires SAP certified hardware for installation and operation and those servers are very expensive to purchase. Configuration emphasis centered on standard SAP S/4 HANA financial modules and streamlined core ERP processes, aligned to enable faster configuration and higher cadence of change consistent with agile software development practices. Architecturally the program shifted to a cloud native operating model hosted on Google Cloud Platform, using modern Infrastructure as a Service resources to provision the certified compute and storage needed for SAP operation. Otto Group IT committed to operate all SAP systems 100% cloud native on leased infrastructure from Google, prioritizing flexible, cost effective provisioning and faster system landscape modifications compared with on premises procurement. Governance changes focused on accelerating system provisioning and integrating SAP lifecycle activities with agile development and release workflows, addressing prior limitations where landscape modifications and new system setups took too long. Otto Group reported that using Google Cloud Platform allowed leasing the required SAP certified resources cost effectively and flexibly, supporting the new SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial operating model while retaining SAP as the application vendor.

Blue Yonder Legacy JDA Luminate Demand Edge ML and Data Science Platforms AI Development n/a 2017 2017
In 2017, Otto Group implemented JDA Luminate Demand Edge as part of a strategic push to operationalize machine learning for its multichannel retail operations. The deployment targeted high volume, high velocity decisioning challenges driven by large data sets and rapidly shifting customer demand, and the implementation is categorized under ML and Data Science Platforms. Otto Group worked with Blue Yonder to instrument predictive demand capabilities that could operate within tight retail cycle times, reflecting the retailer’s emphasis on availability, assortment breadth, and speedy delivery. JDA Luminate Demand Edge was configured to support core demand forecasting and probabilistic planning workflows, using AI-driven models to reconcile multiple influential factors across assortment, promotions, and seasonality. The implementation emphasized automated model retraining and near real time score refresh, enabling forecast generation and replenishment signals on shorter cadences. These capabilities were aligned with typical ML and Data Science Platforms functionality, including feature engineering, model orchestration, and scenario-driven demand projection. Operational integration focused on embedding demand outputs into merchandising, assortment planning, inventory management, and fulfillment decisioning, enabling planners and supply chain teams to act on model insights. Blue Yonder maintained an ongoing development partnership to refine model behavior and responsiveness as market conditions evolved, ensuring the JDA Luminate Demand Edge implementation remained adaptive. The rollout affected consumer merchandising and supply chain operations across Otto Group’s omnichannel footprint, aligning technical outputs with business processes. Governance centered on instituting data-driven decision workflows and operationalizing AI outputs into existing planning routines, with emphasis on accuracy and speed of replenishment signals. Outcomes reported by Otto Group include improved customer experience, increased sales, reduced stock levels, and decreased returns, with the platform designed to adapt quickly to changing market conditions. The JDA Luminate Demand Edge implementation reinforced Otto Group’s ability to balance assortment breadth, availability, and delivery performance through continuous AI-enhanced planning.
