In 2010 Pacific Northwest National Laboratory selected and deployed Oracle PeopleSoft ERP (ERP Financial) to replace a legacy system. Implementation leadership included the IT Manager for PeopleSoft and Organizational Development; the deployment specifically covered PeopleSoft Financials, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Enterprise Learning Management (ELM). The program consolidated core finance, HR, and learning-management functions into a single PeopleSoft footprint, standardizing transactional finance and HR processes and centralizing employee learning administration. Module selection and organizational ownership imply operational coverage across the laboratory’s financial operations, HR administration (including payroll-related functions commonly handled by HCM), and enterprise learning and development workflows.

In 2024, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory implemented Oracle Cloud HCM Absence Management. The deployment of Oracle Cloud HCM Absence Management, classified under Absence and Leave Management, is part of PNNL's multi-year Oracle Cloud ERP transformation led by Digital Platforms and the Computing and Information Technology organization.
Implementation scope focused on configuring absence workflows to support directorate-aligned HR operations across Mission Support and Operations functions, including Business Services, Operational Systems, and Performance Management. The implementation emphasized platform ownership, stability, and continuous improvement rather than a short-term project handoff, with configuration responsibilities centered in a techno-functional HCM engineering role.
Configuration and functional coverage included Absence Management as the primary module, with cross-functional support aligned to Time and Labor, Core HR and Workforce Structures, Self-Service, and reporting capabilities. The team used HCM Data Loader and Spreadsheet Data Loader for data loads and conversions, and configured HCM Extracts to provision feeds for reporting and downstream systems, while leveraging OTBI and BI Publisher for operational reporting and analytics.
Operational governance included close collaboration with Integration, Data, Reporting, Architecture, Security, and Testing workstreams, support for System Integration Testing and UAT readiness, defect triage, and quarterly Oracle cloud update impact analysis and regression testing. Role-based security, data access provisioning, and production service management processes were formalized with the security and IAM teams, and documentation of functional and technical designs, workflows, and sustainment procedures was mandated to support ongoing platform operations.

| IBM | Legacy | IBM Maximo | Enterprise Asset Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2010 | 2010 |
In 2010 Pacific Northwest National Laboratory deployed IBM Maximo as a core element of a five year, multi-million dollar Enterprise Roadmap initiative to centralize Enterprise Asset Management. The IBM Maximo implementation targeted cross-functional asset and property workflows across the laboratory, positioning the application as the authoritative system for asset and location records.
A technical lead role drove development and deployment activities, developing large portions of a cross-functional Maximo statement of work and capturing business requirements across 18 business functions. The team modeled Property Management process maps to translate operational procedures into Maximo configuration requirements and configured portions of Maximo ERP software to meet those documented business requirements.
Architecturally the implementation emphasized a single source location hierarchy, designed to eliminate multiple location data sources and to provide a consistent location and asset reference for maintenance, tracking, and compliance workflows. The configuration work included data modeling for hierarchical location and asset structures, and alignment of Maximo functional modules to laboratory operational domains within the Enterprise Asset Management scope.
Governance and rollout planning were embedded in the five year roadmap, using the statement of work and captured requirements to sequence deployments and to standardize process maps across business functions. Process mapping and configuration work informed operational changes to workflows and system ownership, establishing Maximo as the central platform for asset lifecycle, property management, and related enterprise processes.
