In 2021 Parkland Health and Hospital System implemented Change Healthcare PACS, a Collaboration application, in its Diagnostic Radiology service line. The deployment targeted inpatient and outpatient imaging across the hospital system and supported a Diagnostic Radiology organization that managed 70 Radiologic Technologists with 40 direct reports, reflecting an enterprise clinical imaging scope.
Change Healthcare PACS was configured to provide core PACS capabilities typical for clinical imaging, including clinical image storage, enterprise viewer access for clinicians, technologist worklists, and study routing to support imaging access and reporting workflows. The application supported image access and review workflows used by radiologists and technologists, and was operated as a primary modality for image lifecycle management within radiology operations.
Operationally the PACS was run alongside the facility EHR and administrative systems, with staff noted as superusers in Epic and Change Healthcare PACS and familiarity across BAIMS, SuccessFactors, OneDrive, SharePoint, PeopleSoft, ShiftWise, and Pathways. This indicates the PACS was integrated into clinician order and results workflows with Epic, and used in conjunction with HR and scheduling systems for staffing and operational coordination.
Governance centered on a superuser model and clinical compliance controls, with responsibilities that included ensuring adherence to hospital regulatory departments, state regulators, and JCAHO standards. Rollout and ongoing operations included superuser training, and performance oversight through probationary and annual evaluations of radiology staff, aligning system access and clinical processes to regulatory and operational requirements.
