| Epic Systems | Legacy | Epic Caboodle (ex Cogito Data Warehouse) | Data Warehouse | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2015 | 2015 |
In 2015, Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health implemented Epic Caboodle (ex Cogito Data Warehouse) as its Data Warehouse to centralize clinical and operational reporting. During June to December 2015 a Senior SAP Business Objects consultant and Tableau Dashboards Architect led requirements gathering with senior management and defined project scope for Executive Operations and Quality reporting analytics.
The implementation focused on data ingestion and analytics layers, with ETL work consolidating sources such as Epic Clarity, Midas, and Press Ganey into Epic Caboodle (ex Cogito Data Warehouse). A master dataset was created to underpin two executive assets, the Quality and Patient Safety Dashboard and the Executive Operations Dashboard, and a Tableau proof of concept was developed to address limitations in the existing dashboard toolset.
Technical components included SQL Server 2012 as the database platform, SAP BI 4.1 and Dashboard Design 4.1 for BusinessObjects reporting, and Tableau 9.0.2 for visual analytics. Functional capabilities delivered included executive and operational dashboards, six level drill downs with dynamic visibility, and support for ad hoc reporting for power users.
Governance and rollout work followed a structured delivery lifecycle, requirements to design, develop, test and deploy, and included conversion of BusinessObjects universes from .UNV to .UNX to align with the new EDW data model. The engagement emphasized executive stakeholder alignment, data model harmonization, and enabling self-service and executive reporting within the Data Warehouse environment.
