In 2010, PPL Electric Utilities implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP. The Oracle PeopleSoft ERP was deployed to support ERP Financial capabilities, providing a central system for financial performance and reporting, project costing, and budget management across the utility.
The deployment emphasized PeopleSoft financial modules configured for capital accounting, accruals, journal entries, invoice verification, and month end close workflows. Configuration and project accounting work aligned project cost structures with regulatory reporting for nuclear and conventional assets. Automation was implemented in collaboration with IT to streamline project scheduling data feeds, eliminating a significant manual effort.
The implementation operated alongside Utilities International UIPlanner for budgeting, CMX for project costing, Ventyx Asset Suite for asset work and management, and MicroStrategy for reporting as part of the broader technical environment used by financial analysts. Operational scope covered finance, project controls, regulatory compliance, and business operations supporting nuclear facility and conventional utility sites, with projects totaling more than $650M in value. Oracle PeopleSoft ERP served as the system of record for those ERP Financial business functions.
Governance and workflow changes accompanied the technical deployment, including authoring the Nuclear Capital Funding Authorization Process and a Nuclear Capital Project SOX procedure to enforce management approvals and regulatory compliance. A Milestone Schedule Change Approval Process and a formal project closure process were instituted to assure NERC compliance and introduce electronic signature tracking, streamlining tracking and eliminating hard copy package loss. Automation of project scheduling data in collaboration with IT reduced the time required to prepare key project performance indicators by 50 percent.

| Hitachi Vantara | Legacy | Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2001 | 2002 |
In 2001 PPL Electric Utilities implemented Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as its Asset Performance Management application for field operations, outage management, metering and customer service functions. The deployment centered on Mobile Operations Management upgrades and the instrumentation of host to mobile interfaces to bring asset performance workflows into field crews and back office operations.
Implementation work included technical leadership for the Mobile Operations Management upgrade, managing detailed design, estimates, coding, testing and assignments for a four developer team while delivering eight host system interfaces. Functional modules and capabilities implemented focused on Mobile Operations Management, Automated Meter Reading integration, Outage Management, Customer Service and Asset Management workflows within the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite Asset Performance Management environment.
The program integrated explicitly with ABB Service Suite for host order exchanges and with GE PowerOn OMS where standardized error handling was developed for all interfaces to the GE environment. Additional integrations included Accenture Customer Service System interfaces for field order to mobile operations and service order to AMR processing, both batch and real time reading requests, plus PA One Call to Mobile Operations Management interfaces. The team also developed in house tools for Revenue Protection to rebalance collection assignments during hazardous weather and tools for Metering Services to align PPL and contractor resources to field work order volumes.
Operational coverage spanned field crews, metering services, outage response teams and customer service staff across PPL operations, with the delivery team providing first, second and third level support for host order to mobile processing. Governance and process change included iterative releases, four iterations of the CSS field order to mobile operations interface, continuous business stakeholder engagement to refine interfaces and business processes, and operational support during storm events. The effort included mentoring and training of interns who transitioned into full time PPL roles, embedding support and knowledge transfer into the operational model.
Significant accomplishments recorded during the engagement included leading the MOM upgrade, developing eight host interfaces to ABB Service Suite, building standardized error handling for GE PowerOn OMS interfaces, delivering multiple AMR and CSS interface iterations and creating operational tools for revenue protection and metering resource management, all within the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite Asset Performance Management deployment.
