In 2020, PPL implemented Workday Financial Management as its ERP Financial platform to support the collection and distribution of music royalties for more than 130,000 performer and recording rightsholder members. PPL is the United Kingdom music licensing company responsible for timely and accurate royalty payments, and the implementation was driven by the need to manage increasing data volumes and improve the traceability of funds from receipt to distribution.
The deployment centered on Workday Financial Management alongside Workday Adaptive Planning and Workday Human Capital Management, with explicit use of modules for Expenses and Procure to Pay and capabilities that support revenue tracking and statement generation. Workday Financial Management was configured to provide a single operating system that links HR and Finance, enabling management accounts to consolidate payroll, salary forecasting, and budgeting workflows without relying on multiple spreadsheet versions.
Integrations implemented include a direct bank integration supported by Workday that enables payments to be released within the application and scanned invoice upload functionality to digitize supplier invoice approvals for budget holders. Operational coverage spans the Finance function, management accounts and payroll reconciliation processes, and budget holders across PPL’s UK operations, with Adaptive Planning enabling live updates for forecasting and scenario adjustments.
Governance and process transformation focused on eliminating manual reconciliation and multiple forecast versions, instituting live data updates and centralized approvals to free management time for analysis. PPL reports improved transparency and reduced time spent consolidating and reconciling financial data, and the organization cites ongoing support from Workday’s customer success resources and the Workday community as reinforcing confidence in the future roadmap for Workday Financial Management.

In 2010, PPL implemented Oracle OBIEE for Analytics and BI. The deployment targeted a centralized reporting platform for the UK media rights organization, aligning BI delivery with the company scale of roughly 1250 employees and consolidating analytics needs across commercial and operational functions.
The Oracle OBIEE implementation incorporated BI Publisher, Java Methods, and CZ Extensions to extend out-of-the-box reporting, template formatting, and embedded presentation logic. Configuration work focused on building a semantic layer to model business metrics, developing interactive dashboards for ad hoc exploration, and creating scheduled, formatted reports through BI Publisher for repeatable distribution.

Operational coverage emphasized standardized reporting across finance, commercial, and operations users in the United Kingdom, with automation of publishing processes and custom Java Methods used to support specialized presentation and delivery requirements.
