In 2008, Press Metal UK implemented Sage 200 as its ERP Financial solution to consolidate customer-facing systems, back-office finance and commercial processes, manufacturing and engineering workflows across the UK operation. The project aimed to introduce perpetual inventory and batch analysis to overcome heavy reliance on spreadsheets and manual rekeying that prevented traceability of customer stock in the UK warehouse.
Press Metal deployed Sage 200 Financials and Commercials and worked with CPiO to develop bespoke extensions including Back to Back Purchase Order Processing, Weight Reports and On the Water Receipts. Batch numbering was configured to represent customer codes, enabling customer-level stock identification and supporting perpetual inventory controls and batch tracing for distribution and manufacturing activities. The adaptability of Sage 200 and the ease of writing bespoke modules informed configuration choices, including on the water allocation of stock in transit prior to physical receipt.
CPiO acted as the Sage reseller and implementation partner, winning the tender and delivering the implementation to time and budget with minimal disruption. Operational coverage included the UK warehouse, sales order processing, finance and commercial teams, and integration of order, stock and invoicing workflows to provide end to end traceability across distribution and supporting engineering functions. Process changes linked customer invoicing and stock control so queries could be traced back through the system rather than through manual spreadsheets.
Governance and workflow changes introduced standardized batch labelling, stock allocation procedures and invoice tracing processes to reduce data duplication and accelerate query resolution. After going live customers received accurate reports faster and invoice disputes declined, Press Metal reported a 100 percent close win rate on sales orders and attributed improved operational efficiency to the Sage 200 deployment. Press Metal also reported continued year on year growth and ongoing benefit discovery from bespoke elements such as On the Water Receipts.
