In 2017 Primark UK implemented Aptos Point of Sale to standardize store transactions across its retail estate and to support Point Of Sale functions during market expansion into new countries and currencies. The Aptos Point of Sale deployment ran in parallel with broader platform initiatives on Primark.com and customer systems, reflecting coordinated retail and commerce architecture work.
The implementation covered core POS transaction processing, staff discount workflows, gift card processing, and integration with in store communication systems. Configuration work included ORIN translation and footfall data ingestion to align product and store level data, and the Aptos Point of Sale was configured to feed downstream monitoring and alerting workflows.
Architecturally the Aptos Point of Sale was integrated into Primarks enterprise integration fabric using an ESB, secure file transfer via MOVEit, and IBM DataPower for perimeter mediation, with interfaces into cloud platforms AWS and Azure and enterprise monitoring and alerting tools. Workstreams linked POS data to the web re platforming programs that introduced SAP Commerce Cloud and SAP Marketing Cloud, creating a POS centric data flow into commerce and marketing systems.
Governance and rollout were managed through a cross functional structure, with Solutions Architects coordinating closely with business stakeholders, Program Managers, Project Managers, Architects, third party CTOs and technical consultants, business owners, Solution Delivery Managers and Enterprise Architects. Design Council approval was secured for IP camera and store communication pilot projects, and those pilots were orchestrated toward global rollout alongside POS capabilities.
The Aptos Point of Sale implementation supported Primark UKs expansion into new global markets and the integration of additional currencies, and it established integration points for IP camera solutions used for queue management and refund fraud analysis, staff discount systems and footfall analytics. These signals describe a POS centered operational architecture that ties store transactions to loss prevention, customer experience and commerce platform workflows.
