In 2017, Protective Life implemented SAP S/4 HANA 1610 as an ERP Financial core to consolidate and modernize its finance function, executing an end to end program that ran from January 2017 to December 2017. The project migrated from SAP ERP ECC 6.0 and was delivered with SAP as the systems integrator, positioning SAP S/4 HANA as the transactional and analytical platform for corporate finance operations.
The implementation architecture emphasized on HANA native components and Embedded Analytics, with SAP ABAP on HANA used to refactor custom code. Financial reporting and analysis capabilities were instrumented using Bex, Analysis for Office, and WebIntelligence, while rules and case decisioning were implemented with BRF Plus and SAP Workflows to support automated approval and close processes. The deployment targeted ERP Financial workflows including core ledger processing, financial close orchestration, and integrated reporting workloads.
Interface and integration patterns were built using SAP AIF and SAP PROXY to connect upstream and downstream systems, enabling message processing and service based integration across the finance landscape. Custom ABAP on HANA development and AIF messaging handled data validations and exception routing, while Embedded Analytics provided real time finance insights within SAP S/4 HANA.
Governance for the rollout included structured workflow redesign using SAP Workflows and BRF Plus rule governance, developer adaptation of ABAP objects to HANA optimizations, and analytical harmonization through Bex and Analysis for Office. The implementation maintained a finance centric scope within Protective Life Insurance Corporation in the United States, with SAP S/4 HANA serving as the consolidated ERP Financial platform and the primary source for transactional finance and embedded analytics.

| RecruitiFi | Legacy | RecruitiFi Statement of Work (SOW) | Contingent Labor Management | HCM | n/a | 2023 | 2023 |
In 2023, Protective Life implemented RecruitiFi Statement of Work (SOW) under a Contingent Labor Management initiative. The deployment centralized and controlled contingent workforce and agency hiring across HR and Procurement in the United States, aligning SOW governance with procurement oversight and hiring authorization processes.
RecruitiFi Statement of Work (SOW) was configured to support SOW creation and SOW oversight workflows, inferred from RecruitiFi's contingent workforce and procurement testimonial describing contract oversight capabilities. Implemented functional capabilities included centralized SOW documentation, approval routing for contracts, supplier statement of work oversight, and standardized engagement terms to govern agency hires and contingent engagements.
Operational scope covered Protective Life's HR and Procurement teams within U.S. operations, instituting cross-functional approval workflows and procurement controls to standardize agency onboarding and engagement authorization. Governance adjustments focused on integrating procurement review checkpoints into HR contingent hiring processes, enabling centralized contract oversight and compliance monitoring for SOW-based engagements.
Protective Life reported compliance improvements and approximately $2.5M in annual savings associated with the RecruitiFi deployment, outcomes cited in RecruitiFi's procurement testimonial. The RecruitiFi Statement of Work (SOW) implementation functioned as the primary Contingent Labor Management vehicle for SOW and contract oversight across the company.

| Broadcom | Legacy | AppWorx Workload Automation | Business Process Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2018 | 2018 |
In 2018 Protective Life implemented AppWorx Workload Automation to support its Rater application for Life and Disability insurance, aligning the deployment with the Business Process Management category. AppWorx Workload Automation was configured to orchestrate job scheduling and workload execution for underwriting and business administration workflows used by the Rater application, with deployment spanning Windows and Unix execution nodes during the April 2018 to present timeframe.
The implementation focused on workload automation capabilities typical of Business Process Management, including dependency-driven job chaining, calendar and event-based scheduling, retry and exception handling, and centralized job monitoring. AppWorx Workload Automation was used to coordinate batch processes and procedural PL/SQL packages, and to manage SQL*Loader driven data loads and ETL job triggers, providing a unified control plane for routine and ad hoc runs.
Integrations surfaced explicitly with the Rater application’s calculator engine, Oracle databases and database objects including tables, views, procedures and functions, Pentaho Data Integration ETL jobs, and existing UNIX shell scripts used for data movement and process initiation. The implementation orchestrated PL/SQL executions, data staging flows and materialized view refresh patterns, ensuring AppWorx Workload Automation controlled handoffs between ETL, database processing, and the calculator engine.
Governance and operational processes emphasized conformance to code and documentation standards, collaboration with business analysts and users for requirements validation, and structured testing and production support. Change control encompassed functional testing of procedures and packages, scheduling validation for Windows and Unix environments, and ongoing production troubleshooting and database administration activities to maintain job reliability and data integrity.
