Chess Logistics Technology Legacy Chess Logistics Empirica WMS Warehouse Management SCM Node4 2006 2006
In 2006, QK Cold Stores United Kingdom implemented Chess Logistics Empirica WMS as its Warehouse Management application. Node4 acted as the systems integrator and provisioned the Empirica deployment on a Linux managed environment at QK Cold Stores large refrigerated warehouse in Marston, Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, targeting cold storage distribution operations for the site. The Chess Logistics Empirica WMS implementation included configuration of core warehouse management functionality such as inventory control, putaway, picking and outbound workflows alongside customer-facing capabilities. Node4 delivered customer portal access and haulier slot booking as packaged modules within Empirica, and the project removed paper based processes that previously supported order handling and carrier coordination. Operational coverage focused on warehouse operations, haulage coordination and customer service within the Marston site, with the Linux managed environment supporting continuous operation. Node4 handled systems integration and ongoing managed hosting, aligning WMS workflows with day to day cold chain handling requirements and carrier scheduling processes. Governance and rollout were organized around the Node4 delivered managed service and site operational teams, with staged cutover of physical processes into the Empirica system. The implementation reportedly eliminated system outages and improved uptime and operational efficiency in UK cold chain warehousing while providing live customer portal access and haulier slot booking through Chess Logistics Empirica WMS.
