About the Customer
From the moment Red Bull Racing first turned a wheel in Formula One, at the start of the 2005 season, it was always clear that if the ultimate goal of championship victories were to be reached it would only be done if the team invested in F1’s most crucial assets – people and experience.
Scope and Challenges
Red Bull Racing Formula One team aims to accelerate its performance with ANSYS industry-leading engineering simulation software. Through an extended agreement, Red Bull Racing Formula One will leverage ANSYS’ cutting-edge technology to optimize its vehicle design enhancements and aiming to give the team a competitive edge on the track. Teams are always looking for a competitive edge, and simulation provides it with cutting-edge, fast and reliable tools to validate and optimize every aspect of a race car throughout the design process with complete accuracy and confidence
Outcome and Implications
ANSYS’ computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and high-performance computing (HPC) software enable Red Bull Racing to overcome increasingly difficult design challenges, actually to simulate air flows around its vehicle designs under a range of conditions. This enables the team to assess, select and optimize designs for aero-critical components and assemblies, such as braking, cooling, and exhaust systems.
“Working closely with ANSYS to manage and deliver our extensive CFD requirements has been a very successful partnership for us, delivering real improvements in our turnaround time and accuracy of the simulation” - said Nathan Sykes, Head of Numerical Tools and Technologies at Red Bull Racing... “Virtual simulation and analysis now makes up such a significant part of our design process, it’s essential to be working closely with the CFD industry’s leading software supplier – and certainly contributes to our competitive advantage on track.”
