In 2018, RenaissanceRe participated in a Piprate-led proof-of-concept using the Piprate Blockchain Platform, a Blockchain Platform, to enable secure, bi-directional exposure data exchange with immutable provenance in Bermuda. The engagement focused on re/insurance exposure management and finance use cases, validating ledger-based data exchange for exposure records and provenance tracking.
The proof-of-concept exercised exposure-data exchange and provenance-tracking capabilities of the Piprate Blockchain Platform, implementing bi-directional transfer of exposure datasets and ledger-recorded provenance metadata. Functional behaviors demonstrated during the POC included tamper-evident audit trails, cryptographic provenance for each exchanged record, and data verification workflows at the point of transfer, consistent with Blockchain Platform capabilities.
Deployment and operational coverage were scoped to Bermuda-facing exposure operations and finance workflows, with the Piprate-led POC operating as a distributed ledger experiment to capture immutable provenance and secure peer-to-peer exchange. The architecture emphasized ledger immutability and controlled data sharing between counterparties, aligning platform capabilities with re/insurance exposure lifecycle requirements.
Governance and process focus during the POC centered on provenance-aware data handling and secure exchange controls, with documentation and workflows oriented to preserve auditability of exposure transfers. The 2018 POC validated Piprate’s exposure-data exchange and provenance-tracking capabilities to improve data security and operational efficiency as applied to RenaissanceRe’s exposure management and finance functions.
