Oracle Legacy Oracle E-Business Suite ERP Financial ERP Financial Management n/a 2014 2014
In 2014 River Island implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as its core ERP Financial platform to support enterprise financial management and HR functions. The implementation established Oracle E-Business Suite as the transactional backbone for finance, HR and reporting across retail operations. The Oracle E-Business Suite deployment encompassed Financials, HR and Payroll modules, BI and Retail Merchandise Financial Planning MFP capabilities, and reporting components, with application development and extensions built using Oracle PL SQL, Forms and Apex and ORDS to expose services. Automation and batch orchestration were managed through the Enterprise & Automation team using Automic UC4 processes and ServiceNow for incident and change workflows. Operational integration extended into the ODBMS merchandising platform which manages product lifecycle, purchase order management and inventory across omnichannel outlets including Store, Web, Wholesale and Franchise, with database administration spanning Oracle, Microsoft and AWS technologies including RDS and Dynamo. In store point of sale platforms such as Enactor were aligned to financial and inventory flows to maintain consistency across retail and e commerce channels. Service interfaces and integrations in the environment use JSON, RESTful API and XML patterns as part of the Automation Task Force deliverables. Governance and run book management were organized under a head of applications managing circa 40 staff across five agile focused support, operability and development teams including Enterprise & Automation, Store Platform, Automation Task Force, MS Office Applications and ODBMS Platform teams, standardizing support and release processes. Monitoring and operability tooling included PagerDuty and Zabbix alerting, Atlassian suite and ServiceNow administration, with combined application and DBA ownership across cloud and on premise database estates.

The implementation focuses on HR and Payroll functional modules within Oracle E-Business Suite HRMS, with configuration and operational management aligned to reporting and business intelligence needs. Oracle E-Business Suite HRMS is positioned alongside Financials, BI and the Retail Merchandise Financial Planning application in the estates application portfolio, enabling standardized HR data feeds for reporting and workforce administration. Operational ownership is embedded in River Islands Enterprise and Automation Team, which manages the Oracle estate including databases and applications, and operates automation tooling such as UC4 Automic. Support and operability are delivered with ServiceNow administration, Atlassian suite management, and monitoring through PagerDuty and Zabbix, while Oracle and cloud DBAs provide cross platform database administration that spans Oracle, Microsoft and AWS services referenced by the platform. Mercaux Legacy Mercaux Next Generation POS Point Of Sale ERP Services and Operations n/a 2023 2023
In 2023, River Island implemented Mercaux Next Generation POS. The deployment introduced RFID-based self-checkout and Next Gen POS capabilities across River Island stores in the United Kingdom, using the Point Of Sale application Mercaux Next Generation POS to centralize checkout and reporting functions. The implementation established a universal basket across in-store and omnichannel checkout flows, with functional configuration focused on RFID self-checkout, cashier POS modernization, and checkout orchestration. Reporting and analytics were instrumented to capture transaction channel metrics and session times, enabling consolidated visibility into in-store conversion and checkout performance. Integration work was delivered with commercetools for commerce orchestration, Talon. One for promotions, and Stripe for payments, with system integrator Cabiri coordinating technical integration and deployment tasks. Operational coverage targeted River Island stores in the United Kingdom, linking device-level RFID reads to centralized commerce and reporting systems to maintain a single view of transaction and promotion state. Governance and process changes emphasized checkout and omnichannel commerce workflows, shifting store roles so staff time was reallocated from transactional checkout tasks to on-floor customer service, and introducing training and standard operating procedures for RFID scanning, exceptions, returns, and assisted service. Centralized reporting and operational controls supported rollout sequencing and day-to-day store governance. Reported outcomes include approximately 70% of in-store transactions being completed via RFID self-checkout, with an average transaction time of about 1 minute 14 seconds, and an associated improvement in conversion and increased staff availability for service according to the implementation reporting.
