| Shine Interview | Legacy | Shine Live Video Interviewing | Video Interviewing | HCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020 the Royal Navy implemented Shine Live Video Interviewing as its Video Interviewing platform to move recruitment away from traditional face to face interviews and introduce enduring virtual processes. The adoption addressed immediate social distancing requirements while establishing a permanent virtual interviewing capability for the Royal Navy recruitment function.
Deployment centered on two complementary interviewing modes, with Shine Live Video Interviewing first configured for two way live interviews that could be recorded in a fully branded, secure environment, and subsequently extended to include pre recorded sift interviews. Configuration emphasized secure recording, candidate branding, and supervision features, delivered to meet Ministry of Defence security and compliance requirements and to provide remote assurance during assessments.
The service was contracted using the G Cloud to meet procurement and compliance constraints, and the platform was rolled out across Royal Navy recruitment operations serving domestic and international candidate pools from the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. Adoption metrics reported include more than 11,000 applicants invited through the platform with over 8,500 completions, and within the first six months a 140 percent increase in completed candidate interviews compared with the prior year, alongside a stated increase in candidate satisfaction to 78 percent.
Governance incorporated structured user and candidate feedback loops to refine procedures, and operational controls were added to support enhanced supervision and remote assurance of interview quality. The Royal Navy continues to operate both live and pre recorded video interviewing elements across its recruitment organisation, reporting reduced recruiter effort, reduced time to hire, and continued exploration of capability growth, while being recognized through an industry shortlist for impact and transformation.

In 2014 Royal Navy implemented Oracle OBIEE as its Analytics and BI platform to centralize reporting for the Ships Office and the Information Hub. Oracle OBIEE was provisioned to support supervisory workflows and to act as the primary reporting and dashboard layer for unit establishments and shipboard administrative functions.
The implementation focused on OBIEE report management and role based access control, with configuration to support Ships Office restricted file responsibilities and to enable a Deputy Unit Establishments Administrator to manage report access and content. Functional capabilities explicitly used include OBIEE report authoring and scheduling, expense claim analytics to support Level 2 Expense auditor activities and authorization, and operational reporting to track travel budgets and booking records for both foreign and domestic travel.
Operational scope covered the Ships Office, Information Hub, and unit establishments with the platform supporting supervisory review processes and validation of subordinate work across those offices. Oracle OBIEE served as the analytics backbone for ship administration tasks outside of core job roles, consolidating report views needed to supervise subordinates, manage travel budgets, and finalize disciplinary case documentation.
Governance was tied to existing supervisory roles, with a Deputy Unit Establishments Administrator responsible for OBIEE reports administration and for enforcing access to restricted files. The platform underpinned procedural workflows such as expense auditing, travel booking oversight, and disciplinary case finalization, providing audit trails and centralized report controls to support those governance responsibilities.

In 2014, Royal Navy deployed Sitecore CMS to power its public web properties, implementing Sitecore CMS as the central Web Content Management platform for their website. The engagement focused on establishing a content management backbone to support editorial publishing, structured page templates, and centralized media handling for the Royal Navy web estate.
The Sitecore CMS implementation emphasized standard Web Content Management capabilities including WYSIWYG authoring, template-driven content models, media library management, and editorial workflow and approval processes. Configuration work centered on content types and publishing pipelines, enabling role-based authoring and staged publishing across the public site, with personalization and content targeting capabilities considered as part of the Sitecore feature set.
Architecturally the deployment positioned Sitecore CMS as the content origin and delivery orchestrator for the Royal Navy website, integrating with the website presentation layer to serve public-facing pages. Operational ownership rested with web and communications teams, supported by defined editorial governance and workflow controls to manage content lifecycle and release cadence on the Royal Navy site.
