In 2011 RWE/NPower implemented SAP R/3 as a company-wide platform to standardize core finance transactions, positioning SAP R/3 as the primary ERP Financial application for its finance organization in the United Kingdom. The initiative covered end-to-end financial process ownership, delivering a centralized system for transactional finance across the business.
The SAP R/3 deployment focused on ERP Financial capabilities common to the category, including Financial Accounting and Controlling functionality, general ledger processing, accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, asset accounting, and financial close and consolidation support. Configuration work emphasized master data harmonization and a unified chart of accounts to enable consistent financial posting and period close procedures across business units.
SAP R/3 was integrated into a two-tiered management information landscape, with SAP BW and BPC implemented as the enduring MI system and Cognos Enterprise used as an interim MI layer. Data extraction and reporting feeds from SAP R/3 supplied the BI platforms to support consolidated reporting and management information, and governance activities concentrated on standardizing finance workflows and reporting processes to align transactional processing in SAP R/3 with the enduring SAP BW BPC reporting fabric.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4HANA Utilities | Utilities ERP | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2013 | 2013 |
In 2013, RWE/NPower implemented SAP S/4HANA Utilities. The deployment targeted core Utilities ERP requirements for the United Kingdom operations of the 5700 employee utility provider, aligning billing, customer management and operational metering capabilities under a single SAP application.
The implementation encompassed SAP ISU for industry specific utility processes, SAP CRM for customer engagement and service, SAP MOP for meter operations, and SAP FICO/CA for billing accounting and contract accounts. Additional modules included SAP SD for order to cash scenarios, SAP HR for workforce records, SAP Retail for channel and store commerce, and SAP CLM for contract lifecycle management, with SAP S/4HANA Utilities configured to support meter to cash, customer care and financial close workflows.
Integration and middleware components were anchored on SAP NetWeaver and SAP PI XI to orchestrate data flows between CRM, ISU, finance and retail modules. Test automation capabilities were introduced using QTP to validate process flows and regression scenarios across billing, invoicing and metering integrations, enabling coordinated system interfaces and data consistency across business functions.
Governance focused on centralized master data stewardship and standardized process models for billing, customer service and finance, with role based access and configuration controls applied through the SAP landscape. Operational change emphasized harmonizing utility specific workflows and staged functional enablement to embed SAP S/4HANA Utilities capabilities into customer care, metering operations and corporate finance teams.

In 2011, RWE/NPower implemented SAP BW (Business Warehouse) as its enduring MI system. The Data Warehouse deployment was delivered as part of a coordinated three system program that also included a company wide implementation of core finance transactions in SAP R/3 and an interim MI capability using Cognos Enterprise.
SAP BW (Business Warehouse) was provisioned to serve as the central Data Warehouse for finance and management information, with SAP BPC layered alongside BW to provide planning and consolidation capabilities. The implementation architecture centered on transactional feeds from SAP R/3 into SAP BW, while Cognos Enterprise provided interim reporting until BW/BPC reached production readiness. The program targeted company wide finance and MI processes, and was executed as a staged rollout that separated the interim reporting layer from the enduring BW/BPC management information platform.
