In 1999 Safilo Canada deployed IBM Cognos Impromptu alongside Cognos PowerPlay as its Analytics and BI solution for the Canadian sales organization. The initiative targeted a 30 person traveling sales team and aimed to replace bulky paper sales reports with laptop based analytics and account views delivered directly to field sellers.
The implementation configured IBM Cognos Impromptu for ad hoc operational reporting and Cognos PowerPlay for multi dimensional sales analysis, enabling distributable report packages and slice and dice views suited to laptop use. Deployment emphasized lightweight report bundles and prebuilt analytical views to support offline access and rapid query response for sales calls.
Syntax served as the implementation partner and executed a three month rollout across the Canadian unit, provisioning laptop based reports and training field sellers on self service report use. The operational scope was explicitly the sales function in Canada, shifting routine report generation from IT to the sales team and creating up to date account visibility at the point of customer contact.
Governance changes focused on role based access to packaged Impromptu reports and a new process for ad hoc requests via the field, reducing IT report request overhead. Outcomes cited at rollout included improved sales visibility and effectiveness, and faster access to current account data for traveling sales staff.
