SAP Legacy SAP R/3 ERP Financial ERP Financial Management Tivit 2003 2004
In 2003, Samarco contracted SAP R/3 and initiated the Integra program to deploy SAP R/3 as its ERP Financial platform, formalizing a consortium with SAP and HP and listing Tivit as an implementation partner. The contract structure was explicit, SAP responsible for implementing the SAP R/3 application and HP contracted to operate the IT infrastructure, with documented project and infrastructure budgets recorded during the engagement. The initial rollout delivered seven system modules within seven months, these were sales and distribution, production planning, finance and controlling, human resources, quality management, maintenance and supply management. Samarco pursued a configuration over customization strategy to adopt standard information management software features, and the implementation included an Employee Self-Service capability that provided technical and operational staff access to pay slips, benefits and personnel history. Training and change management were significant, the program logged over 23,000 hours of training and prepared more than 870 users, while a heterogeneous core project team of about 130 people coordinated daily activities and knowledge exchange across sites. Operational coverage extended beyond internal staff to contractors operating within Samarco units, indicating an enterprise scope across business functions including commercial, production, financial control, HR, quality and maintenance. Financially the SAP R/3 implementation cost was documented at R$20 million and the HP infrastructure services contract was valued near R$18 million for a five year term. The roadmap included a continued six month effort to add Advanced Treasury Control CFM, Business Intelligence, EHS for environmental and occupational safety, and APO for integrated sales and production planning. Governance emphasized role based selection and cross functional representation, employees were chosen individually based on technical skills and profile, and the team structure promoted internal cultural exchanges to support rollout adoption. The program deliberately limited custom development to reduce cost and accelerate adoption, implementation proceeded according to plan and Samarco positioned the ERP Financial SAP R/3 platform as the foundation for subsequent advanced modules through 2005.
