ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management was used to centralize demand, investment, and project management, enabling planners to prioritize projects, set delivery velocity, and assign work to platform and product teams in a unified catalog. The deployment included ServiceNow DevOps automation to reduce manual effort and instrument cross organizational insights for teams and senior management. Operational coverage extended across IT development and operations, portfolio planners, and the service desk, with a distinct digital office established separate from the IT department and a modern ERP road map created to support the new operating model. Sasol instituted eight chapters to promote experience sharing across agile teams and implemented an Engage to Deliver model that divided duties between project and transactional work and aimed to bring development and operations closer together. Governance changes included standardizing change processes with a Standard Change Workflow and embedding ServiceNow Strategic Portfolio Management to control funding based prioritization and catalog registration of demands. The implementation was executed with specialist support from Plat4mation and ServiceNow, and integrated process controls were used to provide visibility into technical debt and release performance across teams. Explicit outcomes reported include an anticipated ZAR5bn in savings from the broader digital transformation, seventy use cases reviewed, 1,200 technical debts identified, a reduction in average release time from two or three weeks to minutes, and a 40% decrease in changes using the Standard Change Workflow.
