In 2013, SBI General Insurance implemented Oracle E-Business Suite and provisioned an Oracle 11g database to support the 12x Oracle E-Business Suite release. Oracle E-Business Suite was deployed as an ERP Financial solution to support insurance finance and accounting business functions for SBI General Insurance.
The implementation centered on application and database configuration, with extensive backend development to enforce business rules and data workflows. Development activities included PL/SQL packages, procedures, functions, triggers and views, generation of dynamic DDL scripts, table design and data models for reporting, and creation of table functions to populate schema-based model tables. Native Dynamic SQL, REF CURSORS and temporary tables were used to enable dynamic SQL allocation and modularized processing.
Data integration and operational processing were implemented using SQL*Loader control files, staging tables and flat file control files for bulk loads, and UTL_FILE to export table data into XML payloads for import/export workflows. UNIX shell scripts were used to schedule and automate batch jobs for production data loads, and back-end scripts validated source to target data during migrations and ongoing loads. The technical stack supported automated data movement between flat files and Oracle source tables and structured XML payload exchanges.
Application governance included formal regression testing and User Acceptance Testing to validate business rules implemented in PL/SQL, along with production support and troubleshooting. Performance tuning was performed using AUTOTRACE, SQL Trace, Explain Plan and TKPROF utilities to optimize SQL and PL/SQL, and technical documentation was produced for developed programs and operational procedures. The implementation emphasized database-centric application design, controlled ETL and scheduled operational jobs to maintain the ERP Financial environment.
