In 2011, Seattle Sounders FC implemented ABI MasterMind Workforce Manager. The ABI MasterMind Workforce Manager served as the stadiums primary Workforce Management application to schedule event personnel and coordinate staffing across sporting and entertainment operations.
The implementation emphasized scheduling and shift orchestration, recruitment tracking, role-based rostering, and event staffing reporting. Configuration included templates for recurring match-day roles, capacity to assign and communicate shifts for large events, and workflows to support hiring and onboarding activities tied to staffing demand. These capabilities were used to align labor pools with event requirements and maintain operational readiness for match days.
Operational coverage spanned event operations and coordination with external staffing organizations, with the system governing engagements to ensure procedures and protocols were followed. Internal teams used the application to centralize schedules and coordinate across functions during events, enabling last-minute reassignment and consolidated rostering for stadium operations. The deployment supported regular collaboration across recruiting, operations, and guest services to meet event staffing needs.
Governance practices implemented alongside the software included recruitment goal tracking, interviewer training, and centralized vendor oversight to enforce compliance and staffing standards. The ABI MasterMind Workforce Manager was explicitly used to schedule in excess of 650 personnel for sporting and entertainment events and to manage the hiring of 200 new team members for a season, actions that were tied to ensuring the safety and well-being of fans. Seattle Sounders FC used these Workforce Management processes to maintain budget discipline while adopting creative staffing approaches to meet event requirements.

| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle DataScience.com Platform | ML and Data Science Platforms | AI Development | n/a | 2020 | 2021 |
In 2020, Seattle Sounders FC deployed Oracle DataScience.com Platform to formalize its ML and Data Science Platforms strategy for sports analytics, with an explicit goal to accelerate analysis of high-frequency player tracking datasets and support coaching and scouting workflows. The implementation aimed to deliver fast query responses on very large datasets and flexible scale up and down capacity to align costs with usage, addressing limitations of an aging on-premises infrastructure that could not handle match-level tracking volume.
The technical architecture centralized on a data lakehouse pattern running on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, using Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse for managed storage and query performance, Oracle Analytics Cloud for analysis and visualization, Oracle Content Management and Object Storage for media asset management, and Oracle DataScience.com Platform for model development and operationalization. The end-to-end process followed discover, ingestion, transformation, curation, and analyze, learn, and measure stages, built on security, identity and access management, and metadata management to support repeatable data science workflows.
Operationally the deployment consolidated MLS player tracking data, event data, fitness data, and historical media into the Autonomous Data Warehouse so data scientists could run large-scale queries and build models such as a line-breaking pass detector that was used by coaches and scouting staff. The sports analytics team, performance and sports science staff, and marketing teams consumed outputs for match preparation, scouting, training design, and searchable video archives, and a proof of concept completed just weeks before the 2020 MLS playoffs enabled immediate use in competitive match planning.
Governance and runbook changes removed routine database administration through autonomous services, and Sounders FC collaborated with Oracle data scientists to accelerate model development and operational handoff. Explicit results from the implementation included the ability to manage 100x more data, generate insights 10x faster, and reduce database management to zero percent, plus cost flexibility from pay-for-use infrastructure while enabling new projects such as pattern detection, computer vision tagging, space creation quantification, and goal threat probability modeling.
