In 2019, ShoppersStop implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial core platform. The delivery was executed as a greenfield SAP S/4 HANA implementation with the system positioned to centralize financial processing for the retail business.
SAP S/4 HANA was configured to support category-aligned financial capabilities including financial accounting, controlling, procure-to-pay and order-to-cash workflows, and master data management, reflecting standard ERP Financial functional modules and transactional controls. The implementation emphasized configuration and process alignment between finance and operational retail functions to establish a single financial ledger and streamlined accounting processes.
The program included migration from Oracle E-Business Suite and addressed operational coexistence with other major systems handled by the IT organization, notably Hyperion and the HRMS platform, with data migration and reconciliation activities across those systems. Technical stewardship for the rollout leveraged internal database administration expertise across Oracle, MySQL and MS SQL to support cutover, data transformation and validation for SAP S/4 HANA.
Governance was organized around an internal application owner model, with the deputy general manager serving as application owner and a core team responsible for application management services, conceptualization and execution of software projects, and relationship management with software service providers and partners. Rollout and operational ownership focused on finance and supporting business functions across product categories and regions, with the in-house IT organization maintaining ongoing AMS and upgrade responsibilities.
