In 2021 SMEC implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a multi-module Workday rollout. The deployment targeted the Absence and Leave Management category and was executed within the broader People & Culture transformation across SMEC ANZ and the Robert Bird Group.
Workday Absence Management was configured alongside Workday HCM, Recruiting, Talent & Performance, Advanced Compensation & Benefits, Learning and Reporting modules. Configuration work focused on defining absence plans, accrual and eligibility rules, manager approval workflows and the Workday reporting data model to instrument absence transactions and compliance reporting.

Governance and operational rollout were driven by the Principal Project Manager for People & Culture, with change management, communications and HR end user training sequenced as core deliverables. The approach emphasized scaling People & Culture capabilities and analytics readiness to support operational governance and ongoing absence policy administration.
