In 2015, Smiths Group North America implemented ADP Total Absence Management to address Absence and Leave Management across its US manufacturing operations. The deployment was part of a broader HRIS and post-divestiture HR transformation program that included ADP WFN and development of core HR modules aligned with business objectives.
The implementation of ADP Total Absence Management focused on leave administration capabilities, including absence tracking, leave request workflows, and policy and accrual configuration consistent with Absence and Leave Management best practices. During the same program the team developed recruitment, in-processing, and an employee service center module on the HRIS, with leave administration explicitly built into the target operating model.
ADP Total Absence Management was integrated with the companys ADP WFN environment to synchronize employee master data, payroll-relevant absence records, and case tickets for leave-related service requests. Operational coverage included onsite and remote HR shared services supporting locations in Virginia and California, and coordination with international stakeholders for employees in multiple countries.
Governance was driven by the HR leader who was an HR business partner and member of the executive team, with oversight of onsite and remote HR shared services staff. The rollout was executed as part of a controlled HR transformation after divestiture, including transitioning employment agreements for international employees through engagement with a Professional Employer Organization and reworking workflows for benefits, open enrollment, and leave administration.
Outcomes explicitly recorded in the program included completion of the benefits transition and an employee open enrollment cycle in less than six months to meet sale and purchase agreement timelines, and a seamless transition to ADP WFN alongside the deployment of ADP Total Absence Management to centralize leave administration within the new HR technology stack.
