In 2013, Smiths Medical implemented Oracle E-Business Suite as its ERP Financial platform. The engagement was executed as a technical upgrade from Oracle 11i to Oracle R12, with finance leadership and an EB Tax SME providing primary design and validation oversight.
Implementation work focused on core financial module configuration, creation of delta configuration documentation, and additional customizations to ensure Oracle E-Business Suite R12 met user expectations. The scope emphasized tax engine configuration and financial controls, with the EB Tax SME responsible for tax rules, mappings, and compliance-related parameterization.
Testing and validation were organized across multiple environments, including Sandbox1 and Sandbox2 for iterative configuration checks, followed by formal SIT1, SIT2 and SIT3 cycles. Test scripts were developed to cover full business process functions, functional teams supported remediation of technical objects, and the program progressed through UAT1 and UAT2 for end user validation.
Governance and rollout incorporated documented remediation tracks, delta configuration baselines, and structured training governance. Training documents were created and lead Train the Trainer sessions were delivered to operational teams, and cut over support activities were coordinated to manage the production transition.
Go live was supported with post production assistance through two period closes to stabilize finance operations and address residual remediation items. Oracle E-Business Suite served as the operational ERP Financial system after the upgrade, with retained test artifacts and configuration deltas to support ongoing control and auditability.
