In 2014 Southland Industries implemented COINS ERP as its Construction ERP, initiating on-premises application administration and installation of a Progress OpenEdge database with operational centers including the Garden Grove, California site. COINS ERP served as the primary system for project accounting and enterprise reporting, with explicit administration and environment management across Production, Test, and Development instances.
The implementation work emphasized system administration functions, including installation and configuration of the Progress database, applying and recompiling application fixes and patches, and coordinating application version upgrades. Development and reporting capabilities were delivered through Progress OpenEdge ABL reports, reusable SQL stored procedures, ad-hoc SQL Server Integration Services ETL work, and SQL Server Reporting Services that supported custom report and data mart creation.
Integrations implemented as part of the COINS ERP deployment included HRIS outbound feeds to SilkRoad Human Resource talent management, Employee Referrals, GetAbstract, and Lynda.com, using designed, coded, tested, and deployed ETL processes that pushed employee data to vendor SFTP endpoints. Additional integrations included C# ETL connectors to Active Directory and Tableau Server installation and configuration for visualization, with published data extracts for Projects Job Costing KPI consumption.
Operational governance and rollout practices centered on cross-team coordination, the ERP Team and Infrastructure Team jointly executing application upgrades, rollouts, and server migrations, and participation in system testing and evaluation during version upgrades. Security administration work encompassed OS and Progress level user access definition and management, monitoring and maintaining Production environment security, managing database backups and data growth, and refreshing Test and Development environments from live data.
Ongoing technical operations included Progress OpenEdge database performance tuning, Linux server administration and troubleshooting, and support for company-wide reporting and legacy JD Edwards AS400 applications. COINS ERP was therefore positioned as the Construction ERP hub integrating HRIS, BI reporting, job costing data flows, and core database and application administration for Southland Industries.
