| Workday | Legacy | Workday HCM | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2017 | 2017 |
In 2017 Speedway implemented Workday HCM as its Core HR application. The deployment established Workday HCM as the system of record for employee data and core HR processes across Speedway's United States retail and corporate operations covering approximately 42,000 employees.
Workday HCM configuration focused on standard Core HR capabilities, including centralized employee profiles and lifecycle management, organizational management, position and job structures, benefits enrollment flows, absence management, and role based security and approvals. The implementation used Workday business process framework and configurable security domains to align HR workflows with Speedway's store level and corporate operating model.
Operational coverage extended across HR operations, HRIS, benefits administration, and workforce data used for payroll and timekeeping downstream. The project included connector work and integration planning for downstream payroll, time and attendance, and benefits provider feeds to ensure a single source of truth in Workday HCM and to support downstream HR service delivery.
Governance and ongoing support were managed through an internal HRIS organization, reflected by a Speedway HRIS team member serving as a Workday implementation core team member from July 2019 to December 2020, followed by HRIS Supervisor and HRIS Manager roles beginning in January 2021 and January 2022 respectively. This governance model centralized configuration ownership, change control, and continuous configuration management for Workday HCM to support evolving HR processes.

| Oracle | Legacy | Oracle Retail Merchandising System | Retail Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2015 | 2015 |
In 2015, Speedway implemented Oracle Retail Merchandising System as a core part of its Retail Management footprint, aligning merchandising, sales audit and data warehouse capabilities to support store operations and planning. The Oracle Retail Merchandising System deployment was tied to a suite of Oracle Retail applications, specifically Retail Management System, Retail Data Warehouse and Retail Sales Audit, to centralize merchandising data and operational reporting.
Implementation work included extensive database and application engineering, with development of Oracle procedures, functions, packages and triggers to support transaction processing and data integrity. The team created and modified Oracle packages to optimize performance, used SQL Loader for bulk data loads and developed SSIS packages and UNIX Perl extraction scripts to move and transform retail data for the Retail Data Warehouse and reporting workflows.
Operational integration included scheduled batch orchestration and production support, with nightly job monitoring and resolution using Appworx UC4 for RMS, RDW and ReSA job abort handling. Identity and access integration extended to Active Directory profile creation and modification for retail sites, territories and regions, and maintenance of more than 10,000 user accounts in Retek Applications while meeting SOX audit requirements.
Governance and runbook practices emphasized daily production support, access governance and site realignment processes to manage new retail site creation and territory restructuring. The Oracle Retail Merchandising System implementation at Speedway combined application configuration, ETL tooling and batch scheduling to operationalize merchandising, audit and warehouse functions within the Retail Management domain.

In 2023, Speedway implemented SoundHound Smart Answering to introduce a generative voice AI platform for customer and employee support. SoundHound Smart Answering operates as a Cognitive Computing solution designed to deliver omnichannel conversational assistants that address both customer experience and employee experience needs.
Implementation focused on core capabilities such as automatic speech recognition, natural language understanding, generative voice responses, and conversational workflow orchestration to handle routine inquiries. The deployment included configured conversational flows for customer service inquiries and employee support tasks, with voice model tuning and scripted fallbacks for complex cases. Functional modules implemented covered voice interaction, intent classification, context management, and human agent escalation.
The platform was integrated with Speedway operational channels to enable voice and digital touchpoints spanning phone, web chat, and mobile interactions, and it was designed to interoperate with existing contact center routing and internal support workflows. Operational scope emphasized customer experience and employee experience across Speedway retail operations, applying the assistants to frontline support and internal helpdesk scenarios. Business functions impacted included customer service, store operations support, and employee assistance.
Governance centered on conversational design standards, content lifecycle management, and escalation policies to ensure consistent responses and controlled handoffs to human agents. The rollout included staged configuration and tuning cycles to refine intent coverage and voice model performance while establishing operational oversight for ongoing training data capture. The deployment directly addresses labor scarcity and rising operational costs by automating routine voice interactions and providing scalable customer and employee support.
