In 2008, Spinneys implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 - Controlling (CO) as a core ERP Financial capability to centralize cost accounting and managerial reporting for its retail operations in the United Arab Emirates. The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 - Controlling (CO) deployment targeted finance and controlling workflows, positioning SAP CO within the broader ERP Financial landscape to support profit center and cost center management across store and corporate finance functions.
Configuration work focused on standard Controlling capabilities, including cost center accounting, internal orders, allocations and settlement rules, and profitability analysis consistent with SAP CO best practices. The implementation included integration of Financial Accounting and Controlling under the SAP FI-CO scope, with functional analyst-led process development and enhancement to define master data, cost element structures, posting rules and period-end allocations.
Integrations were implemented with existing SAP modules and platforms identified in the program, notably SAP HCM for employee cost and payroll-related chargebacks, SAP LE WMS EWM for inventory valuation and goods movement reconciliation, and SAP HANA and BusinessObjects for reporting and analytical consumption. These integrations connected store operations, inventory transactions and HR cost information into controlling processes to enable consolidated cost reporting within the ERP Financial layer.
Governance and rollout activities were driven by functional analysts with SAP certification across HCM, LE WMS EWM, FI-CO and HANA/BO, and emphasized process development, configuration validation, and release control. Integrations handled in Spinneys SAP Retail included SAP CRM, SAP Hybris Marketing, SAP PO/PI, SAP BI, NCR POS, Winshuttle, and Loyalty Apps/Web. SAP PO/PI served as the integration middleware for interfacing transaction and master data, SAP BI provided reporting and analytics coverage, NCR POS supplied in-store transaction feeds, and Hybris Marketing together with SAP CRM coordinated customer engagement and loyalty messaging while Loyalty Apps/Web exchanged loyalty balances and promotional entitlements with SAP Retail.
Governance focused on master data stewardship and interface governance, with Winshuttle used for bulk data upload and maintenance. Operational governance synchronized merchandising approvals, pricing workflows, and loyalty program orchestration across corporate merchandising, store operations, and supply chain teams.
