In 2021, St 1 implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations to consolidate finance and supply chain capabilities across the organization. The deployment established Dynamics 365 as the core ERP Financial platform supporting retail, direct delivery, and refinery business functions across Finland, Sweden, and Norway, including operations that service 1,240 St1 and Shell gas stations.
The implementation configured Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management to manage sales order processing, delivery orchestration, retail station management, and customer invoicing, while Dynamics 365 Finance was provisioned for general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and purchase invoicing. The project also incorporated Microsoft Power Automate to instrument invoice and approval workflows, and Power Apps to replace manual spare parts pick-up paperwork with an inventory journal update flow, aligning automation with standard procure-to-pay and order-to-cash functional workflows.
St 1 integrated Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations with a broad application ecosystem exceeding 100 connected systems, explicitly including Salesforce for CRM, Magento for e-commerce, and Kalibrate for POS pricing, with Power BI used for reporting and analytics. Kalibrate integration combines sales volume data from Dynamics 365 with other sources to drive near real-time pricing at retail stations, while the unified data model in Dynamics 365 supports a Nordic-wide self-service B2B order management solution.
To govern the new platform, St 1 established a Dynamics 365 Center of Excellence and engaged Digia as the implementation partner to provide development and consulting resources. Governance changes centralized financial processes, enabled the repatriation of previously outsourced accounts receivable work, and standardized workflows across acquired businesses, creating a repeatable framework for onboarding future acquisitions.
Outcomes reported by the organization include improved cash flow driven by faster customer payments via self-service order details, increased productivity through higher invoice accuracy and insourced AR operations, enhanced data visibility from near real-time consolidated financial reporting, higher efficiency in procure-to-pay matching, and elimination of manual inventory paperwork through Power Apps automation. St 1 plans to extend Dynamics 365, Power Automate, and Power BI to support its new biorefinery operations and to manage supply-side margin exposures associated with volatile crude prices and currency movements.

In 2019, St 1 implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations - Fixed Assets as part of a broader Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Supply Chain deployment to centralize financial and operational controls. The rollout targeted Enterprise Asset Management use cases alongside unified finance processes, positioning fixed asset accounting within the same Dynamics environment.
The implementation configured core finance modules including General Ledger, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, together with Fixed Assets accounting, procurement modules and supply-chain process controls. Automation of asset depreciation schedules, capital expenditure capitalisation workflows and supplier invoice handling were established to reduce manual reconciliations and accelerate invoice processing.
Digia led the implementation and delivered a consolidated financial reporting capability that unified data across prior ERP silos into a common Dynamics 365 data model. Operational coverage extended across St 1 finance, procurement and supply-chain teams in the Nordics, with configuration focused on standardized master data, chart of accounts alignment and process orchestration within the Dynamics tenant.
Governance changes included centralized financial close processes, standardized asset governance and automation rules for posting and reporting to support faster customer invoicing and improved asset and financial control. Consolidated reporting and the automation elements reduced manual work and enabled faster customer invoicing, outcomes reported by the implementation team.
