In 2014 Swisscanto expanded the use of SimCorp Dimension to include in-house fund administration. Swisscanto had operated SimCorp Dimension since 2004 as an integrated system that handles the entire investment management process for a wide range of financial instruments, and the firm manages assets exceeding EUR 40 billion.
The deployment consolidated modules for investment management, fund administration and accounting, centralizing front to back workflows within a single application. SimCorp Dimension was configured to support the full value chain of fund processing, instrument level position keeping, accounting controls and administrative workflows consistent with a Portfolio and Investment Management platform.
Operational scope moved fund administration and client mandate servicing from an external service provider to Swisscanto’s internal teams, with Corporate Services named as a governance sponsor for the change. The decision was driven by increasingly complex products, heightened regulatory requirements and mounting demands on data management, which constrained the flexibility of outsourced administration.
Governance changes included a reevaluation of business practices to centralize administration within SimCorp Dimension, enabling Swisscanto to recover flexibility in the administration of its own funds and client mandates. Swisscanto reported efficiency gains from using a single piece of software for the entire value chain, and SimCorp noted that SimCorp Dimension was already market leading in fund administration in neighboring German speaking countries.
