NYK Systems Legacy NYK Rebro Building Information Modeling PLM and Engineering n/a 2013 2013
In 2013, Takenaka deployed NYK Rebro on a factory construction project in Japan, using Building Information Modeling to create use-point BIM models that supported early stakeholder agreement. Design work began in early 2013 and construction started in June 2013, aligning model production with project front-loading activities. The NYK Rebro implementation emphasized model-based authoring and the production of reusable design models and 3D maintenance and hand-over deliverables. Functional focus included visualization for stakeholder alignment, reuse of design models for construction execution, and generation of deliverables intended for operations and hand-over workflows. Operational coverage targeted Takenaka design and construction teams on the factory project in Japan, with Rebro outputs consumed across design review, coordination, and hand-over processes. Workflows shifted model output from pure design artifacts to construction-ready and maintenance-ready 3D deliverables. Governance and process changes centered on front-loading coordination to reduce handbacks between designers and constructors, enabling earlier sign-off and smoother transition into construction, and delivering 3D maintenance and hand-over documentation during the 2013 project.
