In 2022 Tarrier Foods implemented Shipwell Real-Time Visibility and Control, deploying a Real-Time Transportation Visibility application to centralize shipment planning and routing within its logistics function. The rollout leveraged Shipwell's cloud-based transportation management capabilities and embedded load optimization directly into daily routing workflows for the company's shipping team.
The implementation configured Shipwell Real-Time Visibility and Control to use a proprietary load optimization algorithm that evaluates order size, weight, origin and destination coordinates, and pickup and delivery time windows to consolidate orders into the most cost-efficient routes and modes. The solution included an integrated pricing intelligence capability that forecasts individual load rates and compares those rates to optimized route configurations, and it supports customizable load plans and automatic recalculation whenever an order is added or removed from a shipment plan.
Integrations were limited to Shipwell's built-in pricing intelligence and the company's cloud TMS functionality, eliminating the need for manual import and export from separate third-party planning tools commonly used by small distributors. Operational coverage focused on Tarrier Foods' logistics and shipping department, with daily use by the shipping manager and planners to identify multi-stop truckload and less-than-truckload consolidation opportunities for a Columbus-based candy and nuts supplier.
Governance and process change shifted manual weekly planning tasks into an automated orchestration, altering planner workflows and decision gates so consolidation and routing decisions are driven by the system algorithm. The change produced explicit operational outcomes in the account narrative, including a shipping manager report of four to five hours per week reclaimed from manual planning, and cited beta customer results showing 20 to 40 percent savings through consolidation and one example of a reduction exceeding 10,000 pounds of carbon emissions by cutting more than 2,700 miles driven.
