In 2020, Tecan implemented SAP S/4 HANA to centralize core finance processes and establish a consistent ERP Financial backbone across its enterprise systems. The project explicitly targeted transactional finance and adjacent business functions including manufacturing, supply chain, quality management, logistics and product development to align operational ledgers with plant and R&D planning processes.
Configuration and functional scope included manufacturing and planning modules such as SAP PP, SAP PP-REM and SAP PP-PI, and extended solution components covering PLM, DMS, ECM, VC, batch management, serial number handling and LIS. Financial and controlling configuration leveraged SAP CO-PC while logistics and order flows incorporated SAP SD with Variant Configuration, SAP LE for pick and pack with shipments and handling units, and SAP CS for service related processes.
Architecturally the SAP S/4 HANA implementation was tightly integrated with SAP MM including Inventory Management and Warehouse Management, SAP QM for quality workflows, and SAP PPM for project and portfolio management. The program incorporated label printing technologies with SAP Sentinel and Codesoft, mobile warehouse solutions using SAPConsole and barcode scanners, and WEB Dynpro applications for goods receipt and pick and pack processes that include weighing and non invasive quality checks. Change request and work order processing were managed through SAP Solution Manager and training systems used SAP LSO.
Governance and rollout practices followed an enterprise template and international roll out approach with delta analysis for industry specific process gaps, EHP upgrade and simplification list analysis, and structured module trainings. Tecan established internal SAP consulting and training leadership to drive business needs analysis, process mapping and knowledge transfer for ongoing operations and future S/4 HANA sustaining activities.

Governance focused on centralized candidate data visibility, requisition approval routing and operational ownership by Talent Acquisition teams.
