Microsoft Legacy Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations ERP Financial ERP Financial Management Hitachi Solutions America 2023 2024
In 2023 The Royal Mint implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations to establish a unified ERP platform supporting its Sustainable Precious Metals program, aligning core financial and operational processes under the ERP Financial category. The initiative targeted end to end manufacturing workflows for a new precious metals recovery plant that is expected to process 90 tonnes of UK sourced e waste per week, bringing inbound sourcing through component identification and processing into managed business processes. The implementation delivered Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations capabilities focused on finance, supply chain and manufacturing process orchestration, inventory tracking at goods receipt, and process routing for component removal and identification. A Minimum Viable Product was delivered within 15 weeks of inception by January and phase two followed to extend functionality, demonstrating a staged rollout approach that prioritized rapid operational enablement before broader capability expansion. Architecturally the deployment was cloud first, with The Royal Mint transitioning its on premises estate to Azure to enable elasticity, faster integrations and improved data security. The solution was implemented as part of the broader Microsoft technology stack including Dynamics 365 Business Applications, the Power Platform and the Data and AI platforms, which were used to surface operational data to business users and support automated workflows and reporting. Hitachi Solutions America worked with The Royal Mint on a people led engagement that combined solution design, change management and digital innovation, and a new data management function was created to govern information access and security. The program emphasized governance and controlled data publication to the business, and improving cybersecurity and self service data availability were explicit operational outcomes of the deployment.
